| I have felt that way on occasion here which is why I mostly read but rarely post. As I have learned there will always be people that consider anything less then a purebred a mutt and that's fine. I love my Buster and the way I look at it is anyone who wouldn't love him just because he is a mix is missing out on one hell of a great dog! Their loss. Whatever you do though don't let it stop you from reading here, it's silly and it just lets their "we better then you" attitude win. Most people here are welcoming, because any way you package it my Buster is still part Yorkie and no one can take that away from him. |

| I'm fairly new here myself. I think out of the thousands of people that read and post here, you are always going to confront those that for one reason or another are just abrasive and judgmental. BUT for every one like that, there are 10 more that are just helpful and caring and welcoming. Most everyone that I've seen post or reply to my posts have just been genuine caring people. I need that support at times and I'm sure you do too. Your 'mutt' as you put it, is just as important to you as anyone's 'purebred'. The breed is not important, but the love that they show. Please people, it is SO easy to come off wrong or judgmental when typing to people whom you can't see the whites of their eyes. This forum is a WEALTH of information, filled with caring people who LOVE their babies, even if they have TWO heads and their tails are in a corkscrew. This forum if FULL of caring people and those who wish to share their heart as well as their love of the yorkshire... full or not. In the world outside this forum and here.... there will always be those people who are negative and hurtful. Ignore them. They will go away.

| One of my favorite dogs here is a mutt--- Ella Bean.... I wish we could have her lol. I see nothing wrong with mixed breed dogs being here. I have no problem with them, I just have a concern for those who breed them as they often don't genetically test or breed to improve the 'breed' as there is no 'breed'. But the dogs themselves are fantastic! I want a morkie lol I am a mutt myself i love the word---mutt!

| "Mutt" is just a word, and by definition any non-purebred dog is a 'mutt.' So it's an accurate phrase. Not everyone who uses the term is doing so to be condescending or implying that any one dog is lesser than the next and not everyone who reads it takes offense to the term. I honestly will never understand the oversensitivity some people have to the word. Heck, I affectionately call my dogs "mutt" all the time. I have NEVER seen a case here where any one dog was viewed as "lesser" becuase it was not a purebred. I have seen many instances where people express their disapproval of purposely mixing the breeds though...something completely different. I think that sometimes people go on the defensive and confuse the two though. Last edited by BamaFan121s; 11-24-2008 at 07:02 AM. |

That may be why some are sensitive.

I guess I've been insulted many times. *shrugs* I think that the term mutt is not bad--- especially compared to mongrel.

To the OP...you may run into the judgemental occasionally on this site. Please pay no attention to them. Most of the people here are very helpful and friendly. I've had purebred and mixed breed dogs; both kinds have been the light of my life for many years. I love purebreds, crossbreeds, and Heinz 57 Variety dogs. No "mutt" is better than the other. All dogs rock the casbah. (Yay, 100th post!) Last edited by Bhikku; 11-24-2008 at 07:10 AM.

There will always be endless debates about breeding for "designer dogs" and those threads may get heated but mixed Yorkies are welcome on YT just as purebred Yorkies are. In fact, there are even YT members who don't have Yorkies at all.
