I was born an grew up on a farm here in Montana. Our community was all farming related. My father was a farmer with cows, pigs, chickens and rabbits. We milked our cows by hand. Just think about that the next time you have a glass of milk. This was my life in the 1940s and 1950s. I started breeding rabbits when I was 8 yers old and sold them to a local meat shop. Yes, people ate rabbits then and some still do. Upon entering High School, I joined the FFA [Future Farmers of America] Our AG teacher taught some genetics on farm animals but the most important thing he taught was the care of the farm animals. Proper diet, housing etc. I also learned some genetics and plant genetics at the university I attended. I became intrested in breeding fox when I visited a fox farm in the early 1950s. The genetics of the colors facinated me. I am still facinated by the genetics, especially in my yorkies. Now the Chocolate yorkie. If you want to judge me for the lifestyle I was raised with thats OK as most city people wouldn't understand this culture and heritage. I do agree with you about abuse of animals. I have seen 3 very bad puppy mills which need to be closed down. This is not who I am. I am a older man who is still facinated with how our creator has made everything especially the genetics and the Chocolate Yorkie Bye All

Wayne, I appreciate you sharing your family history. Animals fascinate me. I can understand the need to breed for food, however, it has been a very, very long time since there was truly a need for fur to be used as items to keep the human warm. There are plenty of fabrics equipped to do the job. Unknowingly, I was subjected to seeing animals skinned, some dead and some alive. These horrific images will FOREVER haunt me. There is nothing that I can do or say that stops my minds eye from traveling back to those helpless victims...I also live with shame knowing that I own 2 Fox Coats, both from Poland during the communist era, so I know those conditions of the fur farms were far below any kind of humane standard. As I age, I become stronger in my values and my beliefs. If mans worships his creator, than he must respect his creatures...

I am very disappointed to read this post. Wayne, I think you have so much expertise to contribute to this forum. Your hands on experience in animal genetics would go a long way educating some on here and I myself can always learn, learn, learn and many others would, can and do appreciate any real information. I see so much unnecessary and misinformation. Yes, there are many puppymillers, back yard breeders, chicken farmers, slaughter houses, pig farmers etc that are unscrupulous. Lets all be careful that we are not singling out the wrong ones.

YT Addict | I understand that everyone has an opinion or a passion, but why can't we all be NICE!!! This is an enjoyable place to share information. If you have nothing nice to say...don't say it at all.
