| New Mommy I have a few questions. I am getting my Yorkie puppy in 10 days, and im a bit nervous! How old should the puppy be before you bring her home? I think my puppy will be about 6 1/2 to 7 weeks old. Is that too young? Also I work full time during the day, I dont want the puppy to feel alone. (I do have someone who will come over during the day to play with her and make sure everythings okay) how long is too long to leave your new puppy home alone? Ive been reading everything and anything to get ready for her. When I went to see her she was very quiet, she did not want to walk around. There was only 2 puppies in the litter and the Male seemed to have a lot of energy. I just want to make sure I give her the best once I bring her home!! Ive never had a Yorkie puppy before, so im new at this. |

| The AKC recommends you wait until a puppy is 12 weeks before bringing her home, and most of the good breeders I've heard of on here follow that. You could end up with a poorly socialized puppy if you bring her home too soon. The first couple of days your puppy is home will be the hardest as you both have to get used to each other. If you can arrange to pick her up on a Friday or take a couple days off, it might be better. When we started leaving Ella, we put her in an exercise pen we'd set up inside (we pad-trained her, so we didn't keep her in her crate). Your puppy won't be ready to have free reign over your home for a while, so I would try to pick an area that you want to be your puppy's while she's alone. Please make sure to make a vet appointment for right after you get your puppy. You should do that anyways, but especially if your puppy is still really lethargic, to make sure there aren't any problems the person you're getting her from didn't tell you about.

| Thanks for the help, I thought it was too young. I have a feeling the breeders just want the puppies sold and out of the house |

| P.S. Welcome to Yorkie Talk! There are so many wonderful people here that can help you learn about your puppy. I read up on Yorkies a lot before we got one, but I learned (and am continuing to learn) so much more from this site!

| Hello, and welcome! Congrats on your new baby. No doubt you must be beside yourself with both excitement and uncertainty of bringing this new little one into your life. Seven weeks is much too young. A yorkie puppy is rarely weaned properly at that age, and needs many more weeks of interaction with her momma and littermates. Please insist that the breeder allow this little girl to stay with her mother another month or so. As long as you have someone trustworthy to come and spend a little time with her during the day...she should do ok with your work schedule. Many working families raise happy, healthy, and normal yorkie puppies.
