The AKC recommends you wait until a puppy is 12 weeks before bringing her home, and most of the good breeders I've heard of on here follow that. You could end up with a poorly socialized puppy if you bring her home too soon.
The first couple of days your puppy is home will be the hardest as you both have to get used to each other. If you can arrange to pick her up on a Friday or take a couple days off, it might be better. When we started leaving Ella, we put her in an exercise pen we'd set up inside (we pad-trained her, so we didn't keep her in her crate). Your puppy won't be ready to have free reign over your home for a while, so I would try to pick an area that you want to be your puppy's while she's alone.
Please make sure to make a vet appointment for right after you get your puppy. You should do that anyways, but especially if your puppy is still really lethargic, to make sure there aren't any problems the person you're getting her from didn't tell you about. |
