| Going on vacation and leaving abbey with neighbor Please bare with me as Im new to being owned by a puppy! Abbey will be 4 months when we go on our family vacation. My neighbor will have abbey at her house. We made our garg a Puppy-Pen..toys..food dishes..1/2 carpet..XM radio with smooth music..heated..very nice! Also put out patio table and chairs and we sit there in the evening playing with her. Neighbor has a huge 10 yr dog who is very gentle but they will be separated. Neighbor works so told her to bring Abbey home to her play-pen for those 3-4 hrs..dont know what else to do? Will have her own stuff and plan on leaving her blankets and our shirts with our smells..?? Is it bossy of me to take her a baby gate for her laundry room so Abbey isnt crated alot over there? The teen boys asked if they could put her in finished basement in the crate at night in case she makes noise??? the teens have NEVER been with a puppy and Abbey kinda frightens them with her energy! I'm so worried but its outa question taking her with as we're going to Bahamas. Thanks in advance for suggestions |

| i u nderstand that sometimes choices are limited on what to do. With that said, my biggest how muct attention is your puppy going to get from these people? and also the cold, if your baby is left in a garage? even A basement is freeznig cold... Your pup can and most likey will contact hyperthermia. IMO it is way too cold for that. Puppies need love and are so needy. Even My Suzi is is 8 months old just wants that human contact all the time, which of course can't always happen. Even though i am on diability, I do Have to leave . If their was anther family or friend who could take her in and keep her in the house , warm , and has the opportunity to see just how wonderful A Yorkie puppy is, then i'd personally be looking for somebody else to care for her. Best wishes .

| hmmm....I sense 'doubt' from you and maybe you should act on that and find another way.... 4 Months is pretty young and a lot can happen (so to say ) ~ My concerns are the Big Dog and the Teens and the 'Shifting' around of 'where' she will be. To me, that's too many variables for something to go wrong. I would find an 'actual' small doggie sitter or board her at the Vet. |

| Abbey Abbey cant be boarded until Jan. she's only 3 months. The lady who's house Abbey will be at..has her own business so she'll be sure never to leave Abbey more than 3 hrs alone. My garg is heated and fenced so she cant get into trouble..she has a bed..toys..food and water dish blankies..radio.. we leave her there when we have to go to store! It will be the Woman who really will care for Abbey..and she will keep her separated from their big dog. Im sure she'll put Abbey's crate in her laundry room....I just worry cause I'll be outa country....who knew this would be like having a baby! |

| I have a few concerns. First of all why would you get a yorkie for it to live in your garage? why dont he live in the house in order for you to bea happy family?? and why cant you take your baby on vacation with you? and why would you leave your baby some where that has a big dog and young teens that already wants it in the basement?? did i miss something.. |

| Whoa sorry mustve NOT have explained correctly. 1. Abbey is inside EXCEPT when we go to store..which is 30 minutes one way. So we took a 1 bay of a 4 car garg and fenced it so she could have a "play-area" this way she's not in her small crate and can run and play. recently laid a 12x 12 carpet which is not shown &open from Garg to house with a baby gate so she can see inside and not feel shut out. We just moved from PA to NC and dont know anyone except our neighbor who is a lovely woman..I just know abbey will miss us and that saddens me. am trying to post a picture for you. again sorry if I didnt explain correctly. |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | There just aren't very many people I would trust with my dogs, except, oddly enough, a lot of the people who post on here that I have never met I vote for a kennel, she won't have the all the comforts of home, but she will be safe. |

Sorry, I read that part, but it didn't sink in--LOL. here is my opinion: If you trust them to take care of your dog, then you can do no more than to take her and her belongings over there, such as her food, toys, crate, a t-shirt, whatever. You can take the baby gate over there, too, and mention something like, "I thought you may want this to keep her out of off limit areas, etc." At her age, a few hours in a crate each day won't bother her. Also, with her being in a strange place, and around people she may not know as well, she may actually prefer being closed in the crate vs. just being gated in an area. Crating really does minimize anxiety. It will also prevent her (maybe) from chewing on their door frames, as we all know young puppies will do. When Baxter (my first Yorkie) was a puppy, he would jump in his crate every morning as I put my shoes on, and wait until I closed the door. On days I couldn't come home for lunch, I closed him in the bathroom, with a radio. He cried and cried and scratched, and always seemed more antsy when I got home, he really did prefer his crate. Baxter and Cooper still both go to their crates to sleep at night when mean Mom and Dad won't go to bed when they think it is time | |

| Wow, I feel your pain. It would worry me too, leaving one so young, but if you trust the neighbor and ya'll have talked thoroughly about what you both expect then it will probably be ok. Teens afraid of a 4 month old Yorkie would have me a little concerned. Just how huge and vicious is Abbey? Ok, sorry, just so don't get the whole fear of a Yorkie puppy thing. lol Do you have a vet yet? If not, I'd work hard to find one you like and get Abbey in for a first visit. Let them know you will be away for vacation, who will be looking after Abbey and do they have any procedures in place for emergency care in such a case as this. Be sure to leave the vet info with the neighbor. Can you start taking her over now for short visits? This way it won't all be totally new to Abbey when it comes time for her to stay there. Also, leave a tee-shirt or two that ya'll have worn - so it's good and smelly of you - having that to sleep with, be with may help her some. Will there be a way for the neighbor to call you if need be? If not, then let them know you'll be calling whenever you are able to get to a phone. And I would try to call every few days. The suggestion of taking her stuff over and how to broach the subject of the gate are good ones. The only other thing I would do, and I know this may sound really silly to some, but I would start now telling Abbey now what is going on. Explain it to her, tell her every day. I'd act all excited like it was going to be a great adventure. Then when it comes time to actually leave, do your very best to be upbeat and not stressful, she'll pick up on that and if she senses that you aren't upset then she won't be either. Good luck, have fun on your vacation, post when you get back about how it went.
