| I need to make a decision I have the opportunity to buy a female furbaby that is about 16 weeks old. The dam is 6lb, and the sire is 5lb, I am told. I have not seen them. I am concerned because the litter is CKC registered, but am told that the parents are AKC champion blood lines. The reason they gave for registering the litter CKC and not AKC was that the breeder did not want the buyers to have access to that blood line. I am told that if the parents are AKC traceable, then you can register the pup AKC anyways?? Anyways the pup comes with a one year guarantee against any congenital defects, and I have 48 hours to take the pup to my vet to check for any other problems. Oh, and by the way the ears are not up, which means taping and hoping for the best, I guess. The price of the pup is $450.00 but I have some reservations. I just want to know are they telling me the truth about the eligability of the registration with AKC? And also, the breeder will not give a pedigree chart, but has the CKC papers. Thanks for any imput.

YT 2000 Club Member | Geez there was more I posted but it didnt show up?? Maybe you could call AKC and see if they can answer your quesiton about the puppy being eligiable for registration. I have a poodle that is registered with ckc and I think I paid like 10 bucks for her pedigree.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | If she never registered the litter, then no you can not register puppy. I don't know that I really believe her explaination either. Generally speaking AKC puppies sell for more money than AKC along with the fact CKC registered puppies can't participate in AKC events. Did you look up her name on the AKC suspension list? Were it me...I'd be curious to see if her name was on that list...hence her preference for registering CKC. Btw, a bloodline that is so highly sought after and protected....wouldn't have puppies priced at $450...JMHO.

| it sounds like the breeders of this puppy bought the parents with LIMITED AKC registration which means they can be registered AKC but no offspring can be registered. Reputable breeders do this because they are selling PETS and do not intend for the buyers to breed them. So honestly it sounds like these people are going against their breeders wishes and contract and bred their dogs anyway and now can't register the puppies AKC because they have limited registration. So I personally would never buy from someone that would do something like this...it's dishonest and unethical in my opinion.

Hmmmm well lets see, first are you planning on Breeding her? That's a big question. Papers are not really important unless you are breeding. You might have trouble with getting AKC papers, but I'm not really sure. Why would she not give you a pedigree chart. If you have the parents AKC numbers you can always order one. I would make sure she is healthy by taking her to your vet. Make sure you get the guarantee form before you leave if you get her. Her ears might still go up, but there are many super cute pups with down ears. It wasn't Princess's ears that made me pick her, it was the love in her eyes. If you're looking for a yorkie just to spoil and get lots of love from, I'd go check her out. But if you're looking to Breed, I'd find out from some of our Breeders here about the paper work. Wish I could be more help. Best of luck to you.

| I'm new to yorkies... but someone please answer this for me. When choosing a breeder, shouldn't you choose one that tests the liver? With a bile acid test of some sort? I mean, liver shunts are prevelent, right? I know when choosing a poodle, the breeder should have DNA optigen tests done (on the eyes)... and petellars checked... It's stressed in the poodle community. Wouldn't the same sort of think be important with Yorkies? Wouldn't you frown upon getting a dog thats parents haven't been tested--- regardless of how cheap the puppy is (wouldn't the cost of a disorder far exceed the price of a pup?) Sorry if this sounded harsh, but I'm learning. |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Then price should be the least of your concern. If I were breeding...I'd start out with a high quality dam. Btw, Myfairlacy has a valid explaination....a situation that is highly likely.

| If the breeders of this puppy did not register this litter with AKC, then I dont believe that you can get AKC papers for this puppy. It seems that they are being a little dishonest with you and the breeders that they got their breeding stock from. I dont understand them saying that they dont want the champion bloodlines out there when thats exactly what they are doing by registering the litter with ckc. The bloodlines will still get out into the puppy mill/byb arena. I would pass and buy from a reputable YTCA breeder.
