| Please HELP!!!-New yorkie baby upsetting my Lilly Good morning! On Saturday we got a new baby named Grace. She is 8 weeks old. Lilly, our 11 month yorkie is her biological sister. I wanted Lilly to have a sister and what could be better than her really baby sister. Things were going well for the first day or so, but last night, Grace tried to nurse under Lilly (Lilly looks just like their mom) and Lilly was not having that! She jumped on Grace. Grace tries to play with Lilly, but Lilly just runs a way.. Now Lilly will not go downstairs where we have Grace and her crate. My husband thinks Lilly is depressed. Are we over analysing thing? I am upset because I just want my girls to love each other. Please let me know if you have any experience or suggestions. Thanks! Lauren |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | All I can tell you is when I brought Cooper home, Baxter ran from him and avoided him at all costs. He would jump up on the sofa, then the back of the sofa, because Cooper couldn't get up there. We got lots of dirty looks, while he still managed to look small and dejected at the same time. I started putting both of them down to play in the kitchen. I would put the baby gate up and sit on the floor with them, but loved on Baxter more. It took maybe 2 weeks, but Baxter started playing with him instead of running from him. They are now best buds, and there is nothing cuter than to see them chase each other thru the house. Just have patience and let it work itself out! |

| It takes time, give them 2-3 weeks, and they will be best buds |

| 8 weeks might have been a little young to get her. My breeder wouldn't consider it until 13 weeks. Lilly, though still young, has had a chance to mature and settle in to the home. Maya had a visit from an older daschund yesterday, and she put up with rambunctious Maya 3.2 seconds. One thing they both live there, and eventually they will find a way to work it out.

Hilarious My friend had a cocker from which he kept one girl from her litter, then a girl from the daughter's litter. As the two younger girls would do "their thing", Summer always looked at Michael with this look that said WE WERE DOING JUST FINE AND THEN YOU HAD TO GO KEEP THEM!!!!

| Eight weeks is too young. I let my pups go around 12 weeks. At 10 weeks they still try and nurse from mom but the mom teaches them no and snaps at them thats the way they learn. I would give this pup lots of attention for the next 3 weeks. Start walking both dogs together so they can form a pac.I would do this 2 times a day...In about 2 weeks they will bond just be patient. Your breeder just sold her too young. Toy dogs are different than larger breeds and are little more inmature Good Luck.... |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Congrats on your new baby. Just give then some time they will be best pals soon. Just give Lilly extra love for awhile and feed her first, etc.

| Oliver was 15mos when we brought his baby sister (same mom, different dad) home at 8weeks. At first he wanted nothing to do with her either, but it only took him a couple of days until he was romping and playing with her. Just be patient, it will happen. I did the same thing as the others are telling you, give the first one lots of attention and let them know they are first. I sat on the floor with the two of them and just let them be near each other. Now they are best buds...always together! Good luck!!

| Last year on Zeke's fifth birthday we brought home Baxter. It took Zeke 3 months before he would even come into the same room with Bax. And then he would sit there and look in the other direction. Now a year later (whew what a long time) they play and even sleep on the sofa together. Life is good I know that was a long time, but Zeke has been very afraid of other dogs, as he was attacked. We just gave Zeke alot of extra attention, while Baxter was in the kennel and pen.

| You need to just give it some time and don't force anything. I just got a new puppy a little over a month ago and I have had Lucy for 3 years. Lucy hid in our bedroom for several days in a row, and then would come out on her own to check things out. If we forced them to be close to eachother, Lucy was not having it. Now I put Ella on the ground a few times a day so that they can sniff eachother, etc. Ella mostly does the playing and Lucy just crouches down like a chicken. They did play a little bit last night. Just take it slow and it will happen. Luckily, there hasn't been any aggression, so as long as they can coexist, I don't care if they are best friends.

| Katy is 6 months old and tomorrow we are getting her new half-sister "Sophie Mae" who is 11.5 weeks old. I'm hoping because Katy is still so young they will bond quickly. Katy is well socialized with other dogs but this new baby will be living with her so it may be a different matter. In any case it takes a while for the existing dog(s) to accept a new one to the pack. I have had it take as long as several months down to 2 weeks. Just introduce them gradually with supervision and don't rush things. It almost always works out fine. |

| You're obviously going to get all sorts of different experiences - so you'll be left to figure it out for yourself. Unfortunately, that's just the way it is. We got Meggie at only 7 weeks. I'll be the first to admit that should be too young, but she's coming up on a year old (in 6 days) and everything seems to have worked out very well. Anyway, Bailey (Meggie's older sister) was 9 1/2 months old at the time. We took Bailey with us when we went to pick up Meggie. It was an hour drive home, and for all of that time, Bailey did her best to pretend Meggie didn't exist. My wife had Meggie in her lap and once in a while Bailey would look in her direction. As soon as she saw Meggie was still there, she would whip her head back around so fast I'm surprised she didn't injure herself. When we got home, Bailey tried to completely avoid Meggie and even growled at her once or twice when Meggie just wouldn't back off. At that point, we were wondering if we had made a serious mistake. We didn't do anything except force them to be in the same general area, and within two or three days they were playing together. Now, they are the best of friends and if one of them needs to be away for a day, as recently happened when we took Bailey in for dental cleaning, the one left behind is simply lost until they are reunited. Same thing happened the other way around when Meggie was sick a few months ago and had to spend the day at the vet for tests. I wouldn't make any promises, but my bet is they'll work things out on their own. |

| My daughter got a baby..named Lilly 3 days before she picked up our baby....and is keeping her until she flies out to Montana to bring her to me...well anyway...Lilly HATED Tulip!!! She was really worried about that...it took less than a week and now they're best buds!!!! So don't worry...even though Lilly is ALOT older....she'll eventually get used to your little one. It won't happen overnight. I wouldn't seperate them tho...that won't help... Your baby is too small to walk right now...but maybe if you take the baby out when you take Lilly out to potty she'll eventually get used to her!

| This thread was much needed from my side as I am getting June soon. Cash is so used to being an only child, but I have fostered in the past and although he was bitchy with them to begin with, he later got used to them and when the pups were gone after a while, Cash would sit by their bed and cry . So here's hoping he will be fine with June
