You need to just give it some time and don't force anything. I just got a new puppy a little over a month ago and I have had Lucy for 3 years. Lucy hid in our bedroom for several days in a row, and then would come out on her own to check things out. If we forced them to be close to eachother, Lucy was not having it. Now I put Ella on the ground a few times a day so that they can sniff eachother, etc. Ella mostly does the playing and Lucy just crouches down like a chicken. They did play a little bit last night. Just take it slow and it will happen. Luckily, there hasn't been any aggression, so as long as they can coexist, I don't care if they are best friends.
