| Does anyone else believe that the way the pup was socialized before their 4 ever home makes a difference? Just asking because Samantha the ppl we got her from called the puppies babies or fur babies gave them the pups kisses you could tell they loved the babies. Then Tootsies' breeder was very business like never baby talked never asked me any ? about my home nothing and from the time I held Toots till I paid her she never touched or even paid attention to tootsie..... Samantha is my snuggle bunny jumps to be in my arms, not insecure at all. Then there is Tootsie very insecure doesn't want me out of her sight but forget snuggling unless her idea, and never ever does she gives kisses, and to be held only on her terms. Lol Love them both dearly but personalities totally different. |

| Bobby is the sweetest most affectionate baby. He loves to cuddle. He will just come sit on my lap when I am sitting on the couch and he has to touch me somewhere when we are sleeping. He love his belly rubs, and he loves anyone and anything. I have put in an application to adopt a girl. The foster mommy told me she is also very affectionate. I hope so! I love to cuddle with Bobby and 1 more would be just fine with me |

Yes and no. My Go-Go, which I obtained from my breeder as my first show dog;, she will not give kisses, loves tummy rubs and attention but, on her terms. Her daughter Tahlulah, which I bred and was raised in my home constantly handled from day one, kisses and hugs and lots of attention.....but, just like her mommy, wants attention on her terms. Socialization is a big factor but, temperament is inherited.

| There is a big difference between Barney and Asha. Barney is very much a cuddlebug, and has been since day 1 when we brought him home. Asha is sweet and affectionate, but is much more independent. She will only allow you to love on her when she feels the need, not when you decide.

| Twinkle likes to sit near me and give kisses, but she doesnt really want to be on my lap or be cuddled....shes still only a puppy so maybe she'll become cuddlier as she gets older(?) Most of her affection is reserved for my youngest daughter who is one year old.....Twinkle follows her everywhere and whines at the bottom of the stairs when I put her up for a nap...they also share food and toys and we've started calling them the terrible two! xxx

| Thanks for everyone's stories. I was just curious. I agree that it has a lot to do with how they are socialized. Hot Rod came from a very small pet store and I can tell that he was held a lot! As soon as you held him across your arm, no matter what, he settled right down and was very content. He still does this pretty much til this day. The owners there are very much loving and caring people and they do hold their pups alot. Maggie is from a local breeder and she was raised around other dogs. I guess she may have had to share a lot of the attention so she is used to being independent. Hopefully she'll become a snuggle bug.

| Wow, everything you said about Maggie....sounds exactly like Triss. Triss won't stay on my lap for the life of me. I get plenty of kisses, no doubt, but she doesnt like to stay in close proximity to anyone. She even likes me to hold her like a baby (on her back in my arms) and give me kisses but after 30 seconds, shes done and wants down. My daschund is a male, and he is my lap buddy. Loves to curl up on my tummy and sleep. He even watches me and waits for me to sit or lie down so he can join me.

| Bella is the most loving one out of her and her 2 brothers. She would stay in my lap all day if I would hold her. She rolls over on her back and will lay in my arms like a baby. Bernie loves to have his belly rubbed, but he wants to be laying on the floor, not being held. He loves to give kisses, but doesn't want you to hold him. He'll get up on the back of the sofa and sneak around and start kissing us. He also likes to stand on your chest and give kisses, but doesn't want your hands on him. Baxter, he's more of a loving lap doggie than Bernie, but not near as smart as Bernie. So, in my house it's the female!

| I would have to say yes as far as I know boys are more affectionate than girls. My mom has 2 girls and I have 2 boys and my boys are sooooo loving where my moms girls are more independant. Just be prepared for the boys to be more needy, some like that (like me) but some find it a bit hard to handle.
