| I think she overstepped herself. She may have wanted to make sure that your pup was okay and that was a good thing but to spank him was not necessary. You should never hit an animal, they do no understand. If he was cowering, he must have been really scared. I would certainly let her know her boundaries and that you expect her to follow them. You are much more nicer than I would have been. I hope your little one is okay now.

| YT Addict | Wow! I am in shock that your roommate did that. I would feel very uncomfortable leaving your puppy alone with her. Not only could she have hurt your baby by spanking him, but taking away his food could of had an effect too. Specially when little dogs are prone to get hypoglycemic. I am so disgusted with your roommate. I would question living with someone like that!

I am sorry your lil one had to experiance that.

| i am appalled at your roommates actions. She had absolutely NO right to even go into your room in the first place. for her to decide what is best for your puppy and his training is not her place at all. i would feel the same way. i get upset when someone lets my little Bentley out of his crate if im not home because i dont know what theyre letting him or not letting him do. i agree with you 100%. do not be afraid to stand up for you and your pup.

| i think it was wrong that your roommate spank you dog. but i think maybe she thought she was doing the right thing, and was only trying to help? not everyone is educated about the proper way to potty train dogs. (especially if she is not a dog owner herself) so from her point of view, she might have thought that you were rude and mean to her when she was just trying to help you train your dog. it's hard to change ppl's mind about stuff. like some people believe that you spank the dog to train them, and they think it's silly to do anything else. i would just keep my dog in the room, and train him myself, and once he is potty trained, you won't have to worry about your roommate spanking him or anything. and i think over time your roommate might learn the proper way to train dogs. maybe not though. but i think she was trying to help you, and trying to keep the dog company. if she wasn't trying to help, she would probably just ignore the dog and let it do whatever, and not even make any effort what-so-ever. i mean, what she did was bad, but i think maybe she just doesn't know any better?? |

| I also agree with everyone. How can anyone spank a little puppy? Or any animal for that matter! They are helpless creatures who look to up to us to love and care for them. They also are very fragile. You are very lucky she didn't hurt the poor baby physically. Mentally is another story. I remember when my daughter moved back home after college and I had my first yorkie, Auggie Doggie, she was annoyed because he was always under her feet and she went to push him away with her feet and I went crazy! I told her she better never lay a hand or foot on my baby. And If I ever saw her again try she would have to leave my house. After that they became best friends.

| This thread makes me furious and sad at the same time! I can't believe your roommate did this. There is no excuse for her actions and there is never an excuse for laying one's hands on a tiny animal, or any animal for that matter. I think an argument with her was completely justified. I am fiercely protective of my babies and I would have been tempted to give the roommate a taste of her own medicine. My only "roommate" is my fiancé and I will tell you this.....if he ever tried this with one of my babies, his butt would be out of my life. Pronto! It takes a "special" kind of person to hit a little dog, not to mention withholding food as a punishment. Are you kidding me????? Okay, I have said too much. I am just really upset about this. My advice....if you MUST keep her as a roommate, get a lock for your bedroom door. But, then again, what if there was a fire or something and nobody could get to your puppy? Hmmm. I hadn't thought about that. I guess you should probably take your puppy with you everywhere, find a pet sitter or find a new roommate. Good luck with your pup. I'm sure she will bounce back and be happy again with lots of love and cuddles from you. Wendi and Tinkerbell |

| Senior Yorkie Talker | I agree with this one. Get a new room mate or find a new place for you and your pup.

| When I was a little girl, I met a dog who was spanked a lot. It was a yellow lab. All it ever did was hide and pee all over itself, which got it into more trouble. Finally, the dog turned on the guy and bit him. The guy took him and got him put to sleep thinking it was just all the dogs fault. Two years ago, I fostered a black lab that had been hit. It took 3 months just to get it to let me pet her. A rescue had room and took her in. I pray that they could help her more. Please, please, please, dont let her near your dog again. Dogs can go into a 'shell' when they're abused or even occasionally 'spanked' and its nearly impossible to get them out of it. It will be afraid of ALL people, including you. It's heartbreaking.

| DAMN - just reading this post upsets me - I can't imagine "spanking" a little tiny Yorkie. She must be out of her mind. Sounds like you definitely need a new room mate. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!
