| Picky Eaters! So my yorkie is still not eating her food. She sometimes eats nibbles a day. It is bothering the heck out of me because I know she is hungry, yet she just won't eat. I try to make the food as flavorful as possible. Do any of you have suggestions on what I can add to the food to make a yorkie like it? I have also tried putting the food in a store bought container (plastic) to avoid maybe a TINNY-flavor if the floods been sitting in open tin can for too long. HELP! |

| Boo is one of the pickiest eaters I have ever seen. I'd just get so frustrated with him. Like you, I knew he was hungry but some days he'd only eat a bite or two. Two things that changed that seemed to fix that. 1) Gracie Ruth came into the home and we changed our routine to free feeding instead of scheduled times. When she would start eating it seemed to fuel him into wanting to eat also. 2) The kibble she was eating seems to be one Boo actually likes. We must have tried a dozen different brands, served a dozen different ways. The brand Gracie was on Boo will eat straight out of the bag, no doctoring needed. Yeah! So I'm thinking you need to get a 2nd Yorkie to entice your first one to eat. And as much a pain in the rear as it is to keep changing foods, keep trying until you find one she likes.

| I'm having a similar problem, except Lucky will eat if I feed him by hand. If I take pieces out and put them on the floor beside the bowl he gobbles it up. Could it be his bowl? |

YT Addict | You are not alone! Bailey was a very picky eater when I first brought her home. I was worried about her getting hypoglicemia. I tried everything...different kinds of kibble, wet dog food, different containers, hand feeding...you name it, I tried it. I finally went on a forum here and found out about feeding them home made food. There was even a thread with recipes. I figured since I had tried everything else, that it wouldn't hurt. Bailey is now eating like a champ. I have also started incorporating some kibble along with the home made food and she's eating it. I hope that you find the answer, but all I can tell you that the YT resource was a life saver for me. Good luck and keep me updated!

Donating YT Addict | I give Tyke Nutri-cal on the days he doesn't eat alot. you can buy it at Petsmart or your Local Feed store usually. It does seem that when i give him a little of Nurti-cal he eats better the rest of the day. hope this may help

| I do give bella nutra-drops, especially when she doesn't eat a lot. I just hope she does, eventually, get used to her new food and not expect to get treats and human food all the time. |

| My Daizy is very picky too...I've changed her food over 5 different times...and even if she initially likes the food...after a few days...she sticks her nose up at it....So I just leave it out..and figure when she gets hungry enough...she'll eat! Good luck Someone told me that their vet told them to put parmesan cheese on it...it didnt' work for me...but maybe it will for you.

| A Hungry Dog will Eat! Been There, Done That all of the Above........Since I have 3 Yorkie's I've had to experience "3 Pickey Eaters"! I even went to the extent of Cooking a Homemade Chicken Breast for Breakfast every Morning. Sorry Everyone but I hate to break the Bad News to You but They will EAT when they get Hungry! Without all the Special Effort & Preparation. Since they are so small the eat or rather "Nibble" on plain dry kibble throughout the Day, I leave it out during the Day so they can get to it whenever they are Hungry enough to eat. Especially after their morning pooh pooh run. Dogs Do NOT Eat like Humans, it's not Comfort Food or Snack Time in Front of the TV. for them. They EAT to Fuel their Bodies for Energy, therefore if you are NOT exercising them enough to burn their Body Reserves there is NO need for them to replenish their System by Eating. My suggestion is to take them for a long walk and I bet you they will eat anything you put in front of them. By you constantly changing or sprucing up their Meals so often to cater to their "Pickeyness", you are in essence "MAKING" them a Finickey Eater. Dogs don't want choices, Dogs are Followers and YOU are supposed to be the "Pack Leader/Alpha". I LOVE my Dogs, but I'm not a Slave to Them, every thing I do for them I do willingly since I am completely responsible for them? But there is an extent? Some things are so Simple, yet we make it so complicated. I hope I did NOT offend anyone with this Post that was NOT my Intention. I just wanted to let everyone know that Yorkie's are NOT as complicated as they are made out to be? Mine seem to have NO more Problems and eat plain dry Royal Canin mini 28. Good Luck! |

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | No dear, is not his bowl, LOL, our babies are spoiled, that's all. For 4 years now, every single morning, we seat by his bowl and hand feed, otherwise he wont eat. So we change our routine, we get up 10 min. earlier, and we all have breakfast, together, on the kitchen floor, with Max, can you believe it??? We enjoy spoiling our baby

I understand, and would be so much easier for us, but the problem is not Max, it's DH, (the one that did not like small dogs ) he seats by that bowl and feeds Max with such dedication and love that I think that is his morning therapy, and we all are soooo much happier when he gets his daily therapy LOL.

| My Shih Tzu is a picky eater, and my Yorkie loves dog food. From my experience, the only thing that stops a dog from being a picky eater is to consistently give him his dog food every day at a specific time. The dog is trying to manipulate you into feeding her human food (throwing a tantrum). Dogs will not let themselves starve if food is offer to them every day. My Shih Tzu went two days without eating, and I heard her stomach growling. On the third day, she decided to eat her dog food. Now she licks her lips when she sees me putting dog food in her bowl.
