| Vacation in the mountains - found out Mocha has carsickness :( So I went to the mountains for a vacation with my family. Mom, Sis, Stepdad, and my 2 babies of course :P On the way there, Mocha puked 4 times.. FOUR. We took so many breaks. My stepdad is great that way.. I never really took her anywhere on a car before, so I didn't know she has motion sickness or something like that.. Anyways, we kept a little bit of the window open, and I gave her little amounts of water every 10 minutes.. And she's fine. I think she just puked her tummy contents out? I didn't have net coverage in the villa and my vet (ALL vets) are on holidays too because the last week was Muslim New year's holiday, so everybody was unavailable. I tried not to worry so much, and I just used my logic. On the way back, she puked twice. I fed her 3 hours before, about 3/4 her usual so as not to overwhelm her with full stomach. She went potty before we went in the car. Both my dogs weren't in crates or carriers, they lounge on the car seats. Mocha STILL puked twice. I was upset but what to do.. We were in terrible jam, the windows were open, so it was like we were taking breaks anyways. We stopped at a resto to eat and the dogs had a bit of walk on the gardens. Mocha was romping as usual so again I tried not to worry too much. Gave her a few pieces of kibble to substitute for what she lost. Then she slept the whole way home. I was soooo scared when she started puking, but it's my fault for not researching. The holiday wasn't planned, I had no time to research, and I wasn't gonna board my pets. I know, still my fault. I had thought to stay at home but my mom will be upset, so I went anyways. But we're home now and she's as normal as can be. Even when I had to leave them in my room at the villa with my other dog, she was fine. No separation anxiety, no probs at all. Is there anything you can give them or do to help them with carsickness? Any personal experience? P.S: I did get cute pictures tho... |

| Camden threw up 4-5 times when we picked her up and that was just a little over an hour away! She was two years old when we adopted her and I don't think she had ever been in a car before. You can try Rescue Remedy, some people have suggested giving them a ginger snap. Also, you can try building them up to the car. Sitting it in the drive-way for a few minutes, then going around the block and building up the time of the drive. I have to say that Camden is better than she was. She's not been getting sick in the car every time we go anywhere. She does better when we are holding her vs in the car seat or crate. Good luck!

| My boy gets car sick, but not very often. As a puppy, he couldn't go far at all...now he does a lot better, we just keep a window cracked and make sure he can see out the window at all times!

| Sorry your pup got sick ... my girl does, too. I need to take my dogs for car rides more often: the more they travel, the better they like it, the less they get sick. Unfortunately, the gas prices have gotten so high I can't afford to just burn up a tank of gas so the dogs get to go for a ride . You did well: eat lightly, lots of water, frequent stops for potty breaks and a chance for the tummy to settle down a bit. It makes the trip longer ... but maybe more enjoyable if you can stop somewhere scenic that you would normally just drive past without stopping to see. Sometimes, when human tummies get upset, crackers help to settle things. You can try bits with your dog, too. Hope you get a chance to take another car trip soon: you live in a beautiful country with much to see. |

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | HI, Yes, most dogs do get sick the first two times they get in a car. Mine did at first. But the more you take them out this should stop. I make an effort to take my yorkie on a ride at least once a week. And he loves the window slightly cracked. He seems to love the wind in his face. The vet told me to give them a half of Childrens Benadryl to calm him. But i never did this. I just him used to the car by taking him out quite a bit. |

They love to look out the window as well as stick their little nose out the top of the window. Just make sure to only crack it slightly. |

| Thanks to everyone.. I feel lots better now.. I didn't know carsickness was so common in dogs.. My previous dogs never had any problems. My mom had an American Eskimo, Jimmy, she said he used to vomit in the car too. I'm just glad I don't think I did anything wrong.. We do have nice views here.. here are a few pics from the trip.. even one with Mocha in the car right after she puked And the gardens where they had a really nice romp.. It was cold and the mist was coming down.. I think all in all they enjoyed the trip.
