To play Devil's Advocate here:

The complaints received were probably not against your dog or the dogs across the hall. However, you have mentioned that a lot of larger dogs have been putting in an appearance.

Many people are afraid of dogs. Many more are allergic. And then there are those who just don't like stepping in what dogs may leave behind. It may even be a liability insurance issue. My office landlord has a clause prohibiting dogs which he doesn't really enforce - but he can if he needs to. A former tenant brought Rotties to work, and the place needed to be fumigated for a flea infestation that wouldn't quit when they left.

If Management was to issue an order that no dogs over 15 lbs. were allowed on premises, the folks with the bigger dogs would revolt (as would you, I'm sure, if you owned a Lab or Shepherd or something like that!). Everyone loves their beastie, and no one wants to be the object of discrimination. If you continued to bring Mia to work and someone else saw her who no longer can bring THEIR dog to work, there'd be all sorts of hard feelings and trouble. Therefore, the only logical way to handle the situation is to prohibit all dogs.

It really sucks that you can't take your pup with you. It will be hard on her now: she's used to going with you. But it's the fair (and only legal) thing to do.

It sucks BIG time, but there it is.

Love Hyper Allergenic Breeds

We operate a bed and breakfast. We allow non-shedding dogs (no matter the size) due to folks with allergies. In the past when we took all breeds we spent a lot of time picking hair from the fabric chairs, etc. Yorkies fall into that cartegory so maybe this could help in your situation. Good luck!

Just the fact that he's been in our office a number of times and has pet Mia and has told me straight out that its ok that she's here, I feel a little better about our office in particular.

If I need to pay some kind of pet deposit, I'm totally willing.
I bet that's it. A lot of people are afraid of big dogs, even sweet big dogs like labs and newfies. Someone probably complained. The owner can't discriminate and let small dogs stay and ban big dogs, so he probably had no choice but to adopt a no pet policy.

What a shame. You have been so lucky to be able to take Mia to work with you.

I am not allowed to bring my dogs to work ever! That would fun though! One time I mentioned bringing them in on a saturday we were working so people could meet them and a b*tch woman in accounting said "They finally got rid of the fleas in my office, I don't want more fleas!" I said "uumm Im sorry, my dogs probably get bathed and groomed more than I do!" She quickly stammered and said that others would bring their dogs in who are not as well kept as mine are. I was PISSED! My boss was there and as we were walking out my boss said "Your dogs are probably cleaner than she is!" LOL

They do shed, just not seasonally like breeds with fur. And not in clumps. But my boys definately shed, its on the bed sheets and on the floors when I sweep them every other day. I have to lint brush my bed sheets when they come out the dryer to get the dog hair balls off them from their shedding.

I totally agree... Unfortuntely, It's the only fair solution if, in fact, someone did complain about the dogs.

Brodi mom: I am sorry if I was not clear. I am saying Yorkies are non-shedding and are hyper allergenic. The point I was making is just that...non shedding dogs.

I am thinking that it could have to do with insurance purposes... Also, the Allergy thing is A concern, as well as the people who do not like dogs !
I think you might be able to bring her if you can get A Qualified medical Doctor to write A letter why it is Important to have the dog with you. The better Qualified the easier it will be . In acuality, by law if A person has any type of Disability and A Doctor Supports the Claim , Asking for resonable accomadations is A valid way to go about it. It is something to think about.

I'm so sorry. I know your little one will be heartbroken as well if that is what they do. After all, she's used to coming with you everyday and not being left home alone.

That's really too bad. We used to be allowed dogs in our office too... not constantly, but I would ask my boss every once in awhile if I could bring Layla in, if she was at the vet and needed to be watched for the rest of the day, or if I was leaving town after work and didn't want to drive all the way across the city to pick her up. He always said it was okay. She was really well behaved. Then a few other people brought in their dogs, and new puppies, and they were hyper or whining or barking all day, pooping in senior management offices, peeing on reports...
A few people complained, because we do host meetings with clients, and it just didn't look professional to have these dogs constantly zipping around the office. I really think it would have been fine how it was, to be allowed to bring them once in awhile out of necessity... but when people started bringing 3 or 4 dogs every single day it got a little out of control, and people weren't getting as much work done. So the management decided NO MORE DOGS. Like it has been said before, it's not fair to just say some dogs are okay and others aren't. The management actually did tell me that my dog wasn't the problem at all, she was the little angel who would just sleep on my desk all day! But I understood... it is a workplace, not a doggy daycare.
