Hi Nobella, if they are keeping her overnight Friday, you will be able to be there for her Saturday. I know you probably feel like you would be abandoning her by being at work on Friday, but that truly isn't the case. You probably wouldn't get to see her for most of the day. If, however, you insist on being there, reschedule Coco's surgery. See when the vets next available date is and then schedule that day and/or the next off work.

Oh crap, we were typing at the same time (LOL). She should be fine during the week. If there is a problem, then that is when you would inform your workplace that there is a complication and you have no choice but to take care of Coco. I will keep her in my prayers and hope for a smooth surgery and a speedy recovery with no complications!

The ladies I work with laughed at me for taking Friday off after Tatum had her spay surgery on Thursday. The vet even told me not to go overboard with the attention and coddling because that might backfire on you. But I tell you, the day after her surgery she really was pretty much back to her old self. If you have the weekend off to watch her closely, that really should be sufficient. I don't know what kind of stitches your vet does but mine used wire stitches. Sounds weird but they were just really fine wire stitches that had sharp edges that stuck up out of her. Nothing that would hurt her - kind of like a prickly wire brush. The point of that he told me was that it discouraged the animal from licking on the incision. If she gets regular stitches, just put a snug onesie on her so she can't get to the incision or even an e-collar (which I hate but sometimes they're necessary). But overall, if you're worried that she will really need you that next week, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how quickly she bounces back. Good luck!

Yeah, I really think CoCo will be back to her old silly self on Sunday. Just the first day is going to be hard becuase you dont know if she's really feeling the pain or not and you will be a nervous wreck whenever she walks because you think she's in pain but she probably isnt!

She is so darn tiny, even the premie onesies are too big!!! AHHHH! I've bought and gone through a few. I realize I may have to start to learn sewing.

I agree.
Roxy and TJ both had surgeries on a Friday (different Fridays). They both had to stay the night and I picked them up Sat. (11:00am). They were both fine that day and even better as the days went by. Roxy didn't really even go anywhere near her stiches. But I did separate them b/c she lets TJ lick her and I didn't want to take a chance. I separated them in the same room with a gate up against the bed. By day 3 the jail bird (Roxy) found a way out into where TJ was. This happened again on day 4 and 5 and finally I just let them be together.
TJ was just done this past Friday. He has been licking himself a lot, mostly b/c they shaved him a lot and he seems to have some razor burn (on his belly). I didn't separate them b/c it did no good last time! And he doesn't let Roxy near him for her to do something bad!
Anyway, good luck.
I wouldn't worry about that week. You'll see, she will be fine by Sunday!

She may be fine by Monday and you can leave her but if not I would take a personal leave day or two if necessary.

Yes, Nobella, they bounce back faster than you would think. They aren't as weak as us humans!

Everyone has pretty much said what I would have said. My vet usually keeps the females over night. On Friday night, she will be pretty much out of it and won't want to do much but sleep. The next 2 days, Sat & Sun will be slow but back to normal. After that, odds are she will be fine. Abby, my chi who is a little under 4 lbs was back to all activity on day 2. I had to stop her from jumping on the couch and off for the first 2 days she was home. They think they are invincible!

All in all, she will be fine come Monday.

Idon't know if this will make you feel better but Nala was spayed on a friday, I picked her up at 4pm, she slept the rest of the night and was almost back to herself Saturday morning. I didn't even give her last pain pill to her b/c I could tell she was fine. I would just keep an eye on her and if she doesn't mess with her stiches saturday or sunday then it should be alright to go back to work monday.

Nobella,

Coco is such a high energy little girl I know she will be back to her old self in no time. I would not worry too much if they keep her one night at the vets. Bruce has had procedures before that have required him overnight and it has always been a good experience, they make sure he is okay and I try to distract myself. Not the most fun but it works. I would maybe call in sick or something if you feel she is not doing well enough to leave her on Monday. If not perhaps I would ask your roomate and a couple other friends to check on her during their lunchbreaks, and you do the same. Offer to leave them a nice lunch at your house, I am sure they would do it!!!

To sew up a onsie will be easy, no machine necessary (although then it would be even easier). Split the sides on the seam from the bottom of the arm mark the fabric to the desired length and width cut it leaving 1/4-1/2 inch to sew on and sew it up a basic slip stitch will do if you really do not know what you are doing, but try to stitch as close together and as evenly as possible. On the bottom sew on a strip of velcro in place of where the snaps used to be unless you want to add new snaps or reattach snap peices. Put it on her feel where her tail is and make a small hole. If you really do not think you can do a good job let me know, I could whip something out and fedex or something.

Honestly, it was the same with Tatum! My vet didn't keep her overnight on Thursday (the day of her surgery) but by the end of the day on Friday, I was trying to get her to cuddle and she just wanted to be normal! I don't blame you for worrying and everyone does when it comes time for their turn to go through this but I really do think she'll be fine by Sunday.

By the way, has anyone else's vet used these wire stitches I told about??

I had never heard of them before but it really did work great!

Nobella...
Looks like you've gotten lots of great advice. Coco is a trooper - I'm sure she'll be just fine! I'm off all day Monday. I'd be happy to check in on her for you if you like.

Tatia you are soooo sweet. I will call you and keep you posted. Maybe the girls can meet up this week, before Coco goes in on Friday. I don't know how long it will be before she can have a playdate.

I think it is pretty sweet that your manager tried to help you out by asking the VP if your could bring Coco to work with you, and your other options. Most companies wouldnt even consider it.

If it's any help, Schatzie was recently spayed and she was up and around the next day like nothing had ever happened. It amazed me. I bet Coco will be fine by that Monday.

Keep us posted on how she does, thoughts sent your way and hugs from Schatzie.
