| To Kiss or not to Kiss??? Hello friends! I'm new here and the mommy of a 14 week old yorkie. His name is Rockerito in spanish wich means Lil' rocker in english He is just adorable and I'm loving every tiny piece of him and every second we get to spend together!! But here's the thing, he has been having these revolting tape worms from the fleas (as i've been told by the vet) so I asked his vet about any health issues related to letting him kiss me in the mouth, and he said "any animal that licks its butt sould not lick you in the mouth"....so I told him it was really hard to avoid it but he insisted and told me to let my puppy lick only my face. Any opinions that might help me decide what should I do about it?? I just love to feel his affection and his wet lil' doggie kisses!!! Thanks a lot! P.d: please forgive my bad english. | I would not let them lick my mouth if they had worms. But yes mine do lick my mouth. Dog saliva has an antibacterial agent in it and it is cleaner than kissing humans. A dog can lick your open wounds and make them heal. Besides there are very few diseases that dogs and humans share. Now cats are a different story. |

| I must be a hard-heart. As crazy as I am about my Roxy, I don't even let her do kisses on the face - unless she sneaks one out there! But IN the mouth? I agree with your vet. But to be totally honest, as affectionate as I was with my own children, kissing on the mouth was just out of my comfort zone. Tonz of hugs and kisses - just not on the mouth! I must be repressed!!

| I'm just learning about tapeworms and other platyhelminthese in my Invertebrate Zoology class on Monday and you should NOT let him lick you on your face if he has tapeworms!!! They are easily passed to humans!! You have to be very careful! Ok I just listened to my lecture again (I record them). If he licks his poo, butt, or other dog's poo that had tapeworms and licks in your mouth (even just you hand and then you rub your mouth) you can get them. They would follow your digestive tract and into your intestine where they'd attach. They are nasty little devils that can grow very long and are made of a mouth with hooks (scolex), a neck, and segments. A single segment carries everything needed to produce more segements. A tapeworm can also separate it's self at any part after it's neck and create a second worm and attach to another location of your intestine. A crazy sidenote is there's a tapeworm diet. It's obviously not FDA aproved, so you'd have to fly down to Mexico and buy a tapeworm and ingest it. You follow your everyday routine and it just hangs out in your intestines, taking in nutrients from the food you're eating. You supposedly lose weight and when you want to get rid of it, you just go to your doctor and have it treated. I thought that was insane when my professor was telling us about that. I wonder how many people do this..... Anyway, I hope you listen to your vet and the others that have posted here. It's nice when pets lick us and show how much they love us but, not when they're battling tapeworms.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I diffently agree with everyone about not letting them lick you on the mouth while having tapeworms! But when all is clear, I think it is the best! Nolee gives the best kisses!! On the mouth, not in the mouth. He also loves to lick ears!!

Senior Yorkie Talker | I agree. If the puppy is battling tapeworms don't let him kiss you in the mouth. I partially trained my puupy only to kiss when asked. I usually say "give kisses" in a friendly voice and then my pup will lick either my hand, cheeck, arm, wrist - whatever part he is closest too. It also helps to keep him from kissing people who choose not to be kissed.

| Just wash your hands good after handling him. normal hygene practices. If you start to loose weight and are hungry all the time, then you can get checked after yu have lost as much weight as you desire. LOL |
