| OMG you arent going to believe these rescues!!! I cant find the thread I started the other day so here it is. My daughter has been trying to rescue 2 maltese from a man that has kept them outside forever , this is MAINE .. Anyway she finally went after them tonight around 5. There was 3 little dogs not 2.. ONe is a 12 year old the others are around 3.. They weigh around 6 or 7 lbs each.. She started cuting mats out at 5 and was still working on them when I got home from work at 945. We filled a trash bag full of stinky mats... it was the sadest thing I have seen in a long time. There little frightened eyes stayed glued on us as we working on freeing them from there body casts made of fur.All they wanted to do is put there little heads against us as we working on them... They dont have names that they know and they dont know what a dog biscuit is.. I would have loved to call the dog officer and get charges pressed agaINST HIM BUT WE WERE AFRAID THEY WOULD WANT TO PUT THEM TO SLEEP... They drank water until one of them got sick after she got them here. All dishes in there cage were empty and it was hot and humid here.. all week... As she drove away from his house he hollored by the way I didnt get around to housebreaking them... They are in my kitchen in a large kennel with a real dog bed. Tomorrow we continue cutting and will have baths. I will try to post pics after we get them cleaned up a little more. My daughter didnt get before pics, I wish she had... Maltese are supposed to be very intelegent I am hoping the housebreaking comes easy for them . I plan to find homes for them all ... If not I will contack a Maltese rescue for help... |

| I am so glad to hear that these babies are no longer there and are being cared for. YT has a sister site called Maltesetalk that you could try to list them there under the rescue section and see what kind of response you might get or they may know of a rescue for you to talk to. |

| That is so very sad! I wish I lived closer since I would love to have a maltese. They are beautiful dogs and very smart. My Doodlebug is half maltese and half yorkie, he's such a little love bug. How horrible of this man to treat these poor babies like that. Please keep us posted on how they are doing.

| I know there is a maltese rescue here in new england. They were fine through most of the night. but having 3 and just me to try to look after them this morning was really hard. They didnt do anything in there crate but as soon as I opened the door and tried to get a hold on one the other 2 got out and peed on the floor... I hope its not 2 late for housebreaking... |

Aw, bless you for taking these babies and caring for them. They must be really scared and trying to figure out what has happened to them. They will figure out that it's all good before long. I think housebreaking is very possible, but will take some patience. They will need to adjust to their new environment first and realize what it means to be loved and cared for. Give them all gentle hugs for me. | |

| Overwhelming---you bet! I can only imagine. Patience is going to be the key----and mostly with your self. What I would do is sit down and come up with a do-able game plan. Schedule their time in B & W--- feeding, potty breaks, play etc. Have your DD donate her time as well. The more patience you have with your self, the more easy things will come. They can be housebroke no doubt. All the time & effort you put in now will be rewarded 500% back to you as those babies are gonna love you so much for their new happy life! Any neighbors, friends that can lend a hand? |

| We are working at seperating them today to 3 different housholds temporarily.. I have 3 dogs allready and my daughter has 2.. I also have 2 jobs so my available time is limited... Also I just cant afford the medical attention they probably need... Were doing our best to come up with solutions. |

| I applaud you for what you've done. Since you aren't keeping them, may I suggest turning them over to a maltese or small dog breed rescue. They would be put in foster homes, medical care paid for, and most importantly, future forever homes would be closely screened. Rescues do a great job! I just copied these links without a lot of research, but there are rescues out there. National Maltese and Small Dog Rescue Alliance http://www.rescueamaltese.com/ Shih Tzus and Furbabies, a national organization dedicated to the rescuing, rehabilitation and rehoming of toy breed dogs
