my dog doesn't respond to 'NO' ???! Plz help

my ted is 95% potty trained at 3 months which I am very pleased about.

However, he still chews on everything. he loves to bite my hands! when i'm typing on the computer he chases after my hands. I tell him a Firm 'NO' and he doesn't stop biting! If he's on the couch with me, I'll keep saying no and i'll then put him on the floor.

if he picks up something he's not supposed to like my slippers he'll stop. but when it comes to my hands and feet he won't stop going after them and biting.

He's defintely playing and not growling. But I feel like I am a terrible parent and have this out of control biting dog.

Spray your hands and feet with bitter apple Once he gets a taste of that a couple of times he wont do it anymore. Thats what we did with chachi. They also outgrow the chewing stage in time

Does he have something good to chew on besides your hand? Bully sticks are great, don't forget he's teething and this hurts and chewing helps. Don't tempt him with bare feet, when he nips at your hand, you can try putting the hand further up the mouth, and saying no. Don't over use the word, save it for really important things. I heard one womans tape of her telling her dog no, and it was like, "No don't do that be a good girl, mommy wants a good girl, no, be good" and on and on. Also after saying no, many people recommend giving them a substitute. I agree with Chachi the bitter apple spray can also be effective. Those sharp baby teeth hurt.

Ted obviously teething eh. A wet cloth from the freezer helps cool the gums.
and if he bites you say ouch very loudly and give him
something to chew on. Also push him on the floor and ignore him.

Mine never did but found that when I'd sprayed my hair with hairspray before going out and hadn't washed my hands, they didn't like the taste of that.

thanks for all the advice.

unfortunately ted LOVES bitter apple. so i saw on other post to try deoderant, tobasco sauce etc. I have bought several bully sticks and flossies which are made of bully sticks just shaped in a fun spriral shape that he LOVES. so i put a bunch of toys, bones and bully sticks on the floor. he's stopped chewing on my shoes, thank god

perhaps, hand lotion would work! and i'll put it on my feet as well...that i'm sure stuff tastes bad!

Oscar went through a phase when he was chewing on me like there was no tomorrow.

A trainer suggested that each time he nibbled, to yelp loudly (like his litter mates would have done), then put him on the floor and ignore him for at least 30 seconds.

The yelping startled him and definitely got his attention - the word "no" was old news by that point - in fact, Oscar reacted to "no" like it was a game - he'd double his naughty efforts every time he heard it. He craves attention so much that it was a really effective way to get him to stop. Now I save "no" (combined with a loud hand clap) for really serious situations. (Pooping/peeing on the floor, shredding a good pair of shoes, etc).

I hear your frustration! I also feel like I have an out-of-control dog sometimes and that I'm the worst "mom." For me it's been one more confirmation that human kids would be a very, very bad idea.

I second LaPeque's use of "yelping". Zoe can really get into playing with her toys with me and will shift from nawing on the toy to my finger. One or two high pitched yelps like what a puppy would do if he/she was nipped gets her to stop immediately. She stands back for a second and evaluates what is going on then goes back to the toy. If she does it again during our game session, I yelp again and simply get up and end the game for awhile. I don't say anything just use the noise and then avoidance for a period of time. It has ended just about all nipping except the "overly excited and forgot to distinguish between the end of the toy and the start of my fingers" nipping.

TJ was also a hand chewer. I tried all of the usual things. "No", didn't work. Hand lotion? He loves the taste of it. Yelping and stopping the play finally worked. I also bought puppy teething rings and those were great for helping him cut teeth.

The bitter apple and hairspray worked for saving my plants.. he didn't like the taste of those at all. (Never thought of using them on my hands). He finally got it... and stopped except for an occasional accidental nip.. but I found that I could not even allow him to lightly mouth my hand.. because then the biting would start getting harder again. He is 10 mo old now and we no longer have that problem.. so hang in there.. it does get better.

thanks for giving me hope i do have to remind myself that he is only a puppy still.

I think i actually have to work on my yelping. I know that sounds odd but the way I was yelping before made him think I was still playing with him.

What has worked for me with EVERY dog I've owned, and several different breeds (shelties, labs, yorkies)...is never to directly play with them with my hands. I always have a toy in my hands to play with them, and when they get excited and start playing, I would put a toy in their mouth and keep playing with them. If they try to go for my hands, I would say "no bite", and give them a toy....When they are insistent about mouthing my hands, I would turn their lip in to where if they bite down, they bite their lip. With a yorkie, obviously, you have to be gentle about it, since they are tiny. They become very gentle and soft with their mouths if you are consistent. Remember he's still just a little baby. Every time you interact with him, you are teaching him something,even if you don't think you are. Good luck! He sounds like a playful cutie pie!

i had bought this spray in conditioner for ted and i noticed that he hates being sprayed. so i think this may be the winner.

but to be safe, water would be better i don't want to get him in the eyes with conditioner.
