OMG!!! Tatum just choked SO BADLY!!!!!

Oh how scary! I'm so glad that Tatum is ok! This is a good eye opener for all to read up on what to do if this happens!
I think our babies eat so fast sometimes and don't chew their food properly and just suck it down!
I hope your heart rate has returned to normal!

It's like she wasn't getting any air OMG....there were TWO things running through my head. #1 was the POOR dog who was choking and was being driven to the vet and the cop stopped them (the one that was on the news) and I have to tell you that after this ordeal tonight I KNOW FOR A FACT that I would NOT have stopped the car if I was those people....excuse my french but no way in HELL would I have stopped!!! And the other thought that was running through my mind was my GOD why haven't I read up on Doggie CPR!!!! I swear my head was just spinning trying to think of what to do!

So guys...I BEG YOU....PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE watch your babies CLOSELY not only when you give them treats or things to chew on, but even when they eat their regular food cause I swear you NEVER know when they are going to choke. My God, I would have NEVER imagined Tatum choking on this food, they are ITTY BITTY kibbles....but SHE DID. This was extremely scary for my hubby and I, and I'm sure Tatum too

Now, SERIOUSLY....isn't there a Sticky somewhere for Doggie CPR?? If so can someone PLEASE post the think because I swear I am going to print it out and study the thing a million times. I am STILL shaking over this, my entire body feels like Jello, no joke

I had Nadia choke on those dried sweet potato treats - it was so scary! She could still breath a little I think because she was screaming - I assume that she couldn't make any noise if it filled the whole airway. It was horrible!! I tried to pop it out, but had to take my finger and shove it down her throat. It was horrible!! My husband and I was freaking out. Needless to say we don't have those treats anymore!

Brooke~ poor little Tatum! And poor you and hubby too. It's so scary when that happens, b/c you're never quite sure WHAT is causing it and all you can think about is trying to get them to breathe and be ok, but you're thinking about driving to the vet's and will they be able to hang on for the length of time it takes to get there....on and on. So many things race thru your mind when things like this happen. It's happened a couple of times here, in fact, yesterday I had to stick my finger down Max's throat b/c he had something stuck in there.....we have to watch them SO CLOSELY b/c you just never know what the heck is going to get stuck the wrong way even if it's eensy weensy ittie bittie! I started to give Max the Wee Bits by I think it was Solid Gold, but he INHALED them and they're really tiny...sound like the ones Tatum got~ even if they don't inhale them, they often just don't chew them up, so I decided that he doesn't need that kind of food.

I'm so glad the little girl is ok, and I'm glad you and your dh survived it too, if just barely! It really is terrifying. (((((Brooke, dh and Tatum))))) (and a special ((Steddy)) too)

isn't it just the scariest thing ever? Same thing happened to Layla when I gave her a pill once... i thought i was going to die. I'm so glad Tatum is ok!

I can sympathize with you...my dog, Tyke, just had the worst choking scare over an hour ago...absolutely helpless feeling. I posted about it on here before I even saw your post. Glad she's okay

I am so sorry to hear this happend but I am really happy that Tatum is ok!!! I am soooooooooooo very happy you reacted so quickly. This had happened to me about 4 months ago with Boo-Boo but thank God I have reacted fast too. But I was so scared and I was shivering even 2 hours after so I can UNDERSTAND what you were going through.
Give that little Tatum hugs and kisses from me!

I had a similar thing happen to one of my dogs about ten years ago. I was outside talking on the phone and just happened to glance over at Maggie and saw her clawing her face. I threw the phone down and started screaming for my DH to come help me. I didn't know CPR and neither did DH, and I could see Maggie was dying before my eyes. Her jaws were snapping back and forth rapidly like an alligator, and her mouth was covered in dirt, and she was clawing her mouth and throat trying to get the object dislodged. My husband started yelling at me to do the Heimlich Maneuver on her. At this point, she was so close to death she had quit struggling and I thought she was dead. I was flipping out. She was a large dog, about 90#. I grabbed her up and after several thrusts under her rib cage didn't dislodge whatever she was choking on, I turned her upside down and started swinging her downward, and whatever was hung in her throat finally dislodged, and she took a huge gasp of air. I immediately ran and grabbed a bowl of water and started washing her mouth out, trying to wash all the dirt and sand out of her mouth and off her face. She was so GRATEFUL to me afterwards. There is no doubt in my mind she knew I had saved her life and she was thanking me for it. She had been as scared as I was. It nearly scared me out of my mind, so I know what you went through tonight. I hope nothing like this ever happens to you again.

What fast thinking! Under other circumstances, do you think you could have picked the dog up like that? I'm trying to imagine myself doing that and I'm afraid I wouldn't be strong enough. (we have an 85 lb Golden Retriever) Kudos to you for saving her life
