OMG!!! Tatum just choked SO BADLY!!!!! I just had THE BIGGEST scare of my entire life! We have been over at my moms with the babies so when we got back home (about 20 minutes ago) I fed the babies a late dinner. Tatum has been eating Natural Balance Potato & Duck SMALL BITES for the last few days and tonight when she was eating she started choking SO BADLY!!!  This was totally OUT OF THE BLUE and I have NO idea how it happened, because if any of you feed this food, or have fed this food in the past, you know that the kibbles are ITTY BITTY TEENY TINY as they are the SMALL BITES. She went to the ground and I immediately went down to her level and stuck my finger SO FAR down her throat...hubby jumped up out of the chair and I have NEVER seen him move so fast in my entire life, I swear you guys, we BOTH had a mild heart attack tonight...actually I don't even know if I would call it MILD!!!!! After I stuck my finger down her throat I started rubbing to to try and get any food that might possibly be lodged, to go DOWN. It's like she wasn't getting any air OMG....there were TWO things running through my head. #1 was the POOR dog who was choking and was being driven to the vet and the cop stopped them (the one that was on the news) and I have to tell you that after this ordeal tonight I KNOW FOR A FACT that I would NOT have stopped the car if I was those people....excuse my french but no way in HELL would I have stopped!!! And the other thought that was running through my mind was my GOD why haven't I read up on Doggie CPR!!!! I swear my head was just spinning trying to think of what to do! So guys...I BEG YOU....PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE watch your babies CLOSELY not only when you give them treats or things to chew on, but even when they eat their regular food cause I swear you NEVER know when they are going to choke. My God, I would have NEVER imagined Tatum choking on this food, they are ITTY BITTY kibbles....but SHE DID. This was extremely scary for my hubby and I, and I'm sure Tatum too  Now, SERIOUSLY....isn't there a Sticky somewhere for Doggie CPR?? If so can someone PLEASE post the think because I swear I am going to print it out and study the thing a million times. I am STILL shaking over this, my entire body feels like Jello, no joke  |
I'm so glad your dog is ok! and you and your hubby :) that is a good idea for a dog cpr sticky... I wouldn't know what to do and my ted like everyone elses yorkie is always chewing on something. |
i just checked out your album and you have adorable yorkies! they are tooo cute to die! i probably would have had a heart attack myself... |
Here's a couple of good stickys http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...uture-use.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...-maneuver.html Glad she's ok, you said that she ate really fast, sounds like she "inhales her food." |
Gives me chills just reading this! I would have been straight to panic mode myself. Big Hugs for you and your babies! Im glad she is ok!! |
Poor Tatum, poor you, poor hubbie! I'm so glad she's ok. I think I'd better study up on the CPR. You never know what can happen. It's a good thing you both reacted so quickly. Tatum must have been terrified. I hope her little throat isn't too sore now. |
Aww, sorry that happened to you. :( |
AW :(! I'm so sorry, I'm so glad Tatum is ok though. We had only had Lilly a month or so and she started choking on a treat one night. I was sooo scared, I swear I had 50 million heart-attacks :(. Rickey, my boyfriend, had to blow in her nose or something to get her breathing again, I seriously think if he hadn't done that she would've died. We even went ahead to the emergency vet after it had happened, she was foaming out the nose and mouth and everything . It was horrid and I'm always so afraid that I'll have a replay. :(:( I bet she's exhausted now, bless her little heart. |
Close one!!! Thank god your dog is ok. |
I am so glad that little Tatum is ok! Good job keeping an eye on her. Thank you for sharing with us - I hadn't thought about yorkie CPR, but you can bet that by the time I am off the computer tonight I will be fresh on all of the available details! THANK YOU!!! |

You are right - our babies are always chewing on something but they HAVE to eat...and to think that she could choke on a dog food kibble that is so teeny tiny, is just scary! |

Yes she does eat fast (normally) but tonight she honestly wasn't eating quite as fast as she usually does. She wasn't eating "SLOW" but not really inhaling it either...not eating fast enough to choke like that anyway....I honestly don't know what happened. Scared me TO DEATH though  P.S. - Thanks for the .GIF you left in my profile...I saved it and will be studying it as well! |
