Oh gosh I hope not either She has been kind of "snorting" since then - but it has calmed down a little bit...she's not doing it as much as she was a little while ago. I would HIGHLY recommend "studying" the CPR Sticky...I know I will be! It's so true...you really DON'T know when something awful is going to happen...with Tatum it was just out of the blue and totally unexpected, as I guess it usually always is So darn scary

We had only had Lilly a month or so and she started choking on a treat one night. I was sooo scared, I swear I had 50 million heart-attacks . Rickey, my boyfriend, had to blow in her nose or something to get her breathing again, I seriously think if he hadn't done that she would've died. We even went ahead to the emergency vet after it had happened, she was foaming out the nose and mouth and everything . It was horrid and I'm always so afraid that I'll have a replay.

I bet she's exhausted now, bless her little heart.
OMG! GIRL!! I cannot even IMAGINE...I bet you were just dying inside!!! It truly is soo sooo awful to see them like that....it's just like your brain can't process it fast enough and you can't think of what to do quickly enough...my God, it's just terrible! Poor Lilly....thank GOD she was ok and you guys were able to help her!

Oh I am so glad that you will be reading up on it too - I really do believe that it is such a GREAT idea!! I mean really...when you sit and think about it...who the heck KNOWS when an episode like this is going to happen?? I sure as heck didn't! If it would have been worse I wouldn't of known WHAT to do - and that is REALLY scary thought I'm SO not glad this happened to her...but it does make me feel good to know that maybe by sharing what happened it will help others realise that these things are sooo unpredictable and will encourage others to read up on Doggie CPR....it really is super important info to know!

OMGosh, Brooke! How terribly scary! I am so glad that darling little Tatum is okay! Do you think she possibly inhaled her food...I mean...does she gobble it down in record time? Libby does that, but she hasn't choked. Kisses to sweet Tatum from Maddie and Libby!

Thank you Connie! Tatum is a little piggy and usually she does eat pretty fast, BUT....tonight she HONESTLY wasn't eating as quickly as she normally does, not fast enough to choke like she did...I mean it was BAD. I honestly had some very horrible thoughts running through my mind and I won't repeat them It was just incredibly scary She has choked before, a long time ago, but not like this. I swear I almost lost it

Thank God Libby has never choked and pray that she never does - it's just awful!! Watch her VERY closely when she eats though because you just NEVER know

I'm very sorry you had to go through this, but I'm so glad little Tatum is okay. You are very lucky you saw it happen and could save her. I know how scared you had to have been.

I had a similar thing happen to one of my dogs about ten years ago. I was outside talking on the phone and just happened to glance over at Maggie and saw her clawing her face. I threw the phone down and started screaming for my DH to come help me. I didn't know CPR and neither did DH, and I could see Maggie was dying before my eyes. Her jaws were snapping back and forth rapidly like an alligator, and her mouth was covered in dirt, and she was clawing her mouth and throat trying to get the object dislodged. My husband started yelling at me to do the Heimlich Maneuver on her. At this point, she was so close to death she had quit struggling and I thought she was dead. I was flipping out. She was a large dog, about 90#. I grabbed her up and after several thrusts under her rib cage didn't dislodge whatever she was choking on, I turned her upside down and started swinging her downward, and whatever was hung in her throat finally dislodged, and she took a huge gasp of air. I immediately ran and grabbed a bowl of water and started washing her mouth out, trying to wash all the dirt and sand out of her mouth and off her face. She was so GRATEFUL to me afterwards. There is no doubt in my mind she knew I had saved her life and she was thanking me for it. She had been as scared as I was. It nearly scared me out of my mind, so I know what you went through tonight. I hope nothing like this ever happens to you again.

OH BROOKE!!!! How scary!!! I am so glad she is okay and her Mama got her through it! Thank god you were right there while she was eating.

I'm sure this will never happen again (knock on wood), but if you're nervous about it - you could also sprinkle a bit of water on the kibble to soften it a bit - that might help?

Give the Tater some hugs from us!

Sooo glad everything is Okay now. Did you feel anything when you had your finger in her throat?
Cassie eats without chewing. I feed her kibble one at a time or I soak it to make it mushy. I never thought they could choke on their food. It seems only possible if it was something they shouldn't be eating or something big they swallowed.

Oh my gosh! I am so glad that little Tatum is okay! You must have been so scared! I will definitely print out the information and read up on it as Maggie is a little vacuum cleaner and just inhales her food.
