Rainbow You're doing the right thing...

I'm sorry for the situation that you are in. My kids don't help out either and it's frustrating. I have a heart cond. and can't work. My 2 furbabies are what keeps me going and they get me out by taking them out. If you place them seperatly, I'd be interested in the female. I've been looking for a female that was not too expensive, Because of having her spayed. My Baron is 9 months old and almost housebroken and is getting neutered in October. If you decide to seperate them let me know. I would love her very much. I loved when you said you bathe them in Pantene, so do I !! I take my babies everywhere with me even on vacation. They are part of the family too. Hoping you find loving homes for them... Blessings... Baron's mom

Awwww, you certainly do sound like a wonderful Yorkie mommy (and skin-mommy too! ). I do agree that fixing your male might indeed help the problem. It definitely wouldn't hurt! And you are absolutely right, maybe this really IS a wake-up call for your sons. I hope so! I will say a prayer that everything works out in the end so that your furbabies are able to stay with you, but if not I wish you luck in finding them a loving home where they are spoiled rotten!

I only mentioned this because I saw the way Tobey was looking at her in one of your pictures. She's way too young to be a mom and you certainly don't need more on your plate. Since you aren't home much, you may want to consider separating them when there's no one around to keep an eye on them if you don't get Tobey neutered. Many people aren't aware their girl's in heat until she's tied up with a male.
That's a very good observation!! It would take a man to see that Toby was looking at Jade with lustful eyes!!

HaHaHa....You could be right but it's mostly because I've seen that look before. Around here, Roger is my 'early warning radar' for a girl going into heat. He ALWAYS knows before I do. And that look is unmistakeable.

Part of what Tobey is doing is marking and this is different than peeing. Unneutered male dogs are notorious for marking and their urine has a much stronger smell than neutered dogs. Neutered male dogs usually don't mark in the house either. I'm wondering if a belly band might help with this too, until he can be fixed. If you haven't completely made up your mind on all of this, I think she should read up a little on marking and see what you can do to cut this down. Also, since your boys know you are serious, maybe you could work out a probation period with them, and see what they are willing to do to help you solve this problem. Kids can often surprise you and can really step up to the plate, if they feel like they are needed.

I'm going to give this another try. I just finished bathing my babies and they are soooo cute and I cannot give them up. I will get them both fixed and see if that helps any and my boys promised to do better with letting them out or even using the wee wee pads. They actually helped with bath time tonight, and my 14 year old told me that he even picked up pooh without having to be told tonight! YEAH! Although this too shall soon pass.... I will call vet next week for Tobey getting fixed. Jade I have to wait on. I have to do something about this smell in my house. It is embarressing and these dogs cannot have run of this house anymore. Maybe some people can give me some tips on how to house break, for a mommy who isn't home often, although hubby and kids get home early! Goodnight guys and thank you for all of the wonderful advice! I'm alittle overwhelmed with work right now and pissy rugs and furniture but I am going to go and cuddle with my babies in my bed and call it a night. My friend at work has a male chiuahua who is 2 and still not potty trained and she just lets him go all over the house. See this I cannot have. Being a nurse, this is very unhealthy for my family and not my standard of living to have my house smelling like pee all the time. Ok OK I'm rambling now. I'm overtired. Good night!

Yeah you are right about the marking. This is probably what it is because it is Tobey's pee I am smelling. It is strong and has a musty kind of odor to it, and even though Jade does pee tiny piddles on the floor or rug, I cannot smell her urine. Yup, time to get fixed Tobey!

Maybe you could rent a Rug Doctor, and buy a special pet formula to get the smell out of your carpets.
Making a potty schedule and posting it on your fridge will help your family know when to take the dogs out. Until they are fully trained, it is a good idea to start by letting them go out every 2 hours.
At night, place pee pads down for them.
Also, you can place them on a feed schedule too. Not to free feed them. that way you will have more control over when they need to eleminate. Consistency is very important when training. You can even teach them to go potty on command. Have a potty spot in the yard. Reward them when they go, and give them plenty of praise when they suceed. Yorkie's are known to be difficult to train.
Best Wishes.

it will take a while to change him of his cocking in the house.. just so you know it will not happen over night.. but you will se a huge difference... but do try to block them in the bathroom, kitchen while your not home.. and if you have a back yard with a doggie door.. they could go out at there pleasure.. that is why my do.. and we love this.. as long as the fence is up and the door in.. and the kids are home.. they should soon pick up going outside.. again in time.. but you would be surprised at the difference..

I wish you good luck with this.. anne

Good morning guys. Thanks for all of the wonderful posts. As soon as I got up I logged in to see more great posts. I usually do keep them in the kitchem but the kids forget they are in there and leave the gates open, 2 kitchen entrances, and then they are free at last!!! Will also stop the free feeding too. So what times should I feed? I heard Yorkies should always have food out because of their blood sugar. I think Jade is sick now. She will go to the vet tomorrow. She has had diarrhea for 3 days now, and when I gave her a bath last night her butt is red and tender, poor thing. I can really see her butt under her tail because I have her butt area shaved because she used to get poop stuck there but since I started shaving that area she doesn't get poop stuck there anymore. She is acting fine, eating fine, you would not know she is sick except for this mucousy diarrhea and it isn't the best smelling either. Anyone know what can cause this? She also does this thing where it looks like she is sliding on her butt. You know that commercial, "Look Mom, Toby learned a new trick?" LOL...why does she do that? It is cute but kinda gross too. Thanks!

As your sons are the ones home with them, this is really about training them as well.

Set up a reward and consequence system to post right beside the potty schedule and hold them to it. Make the rules non negotiable and hold them accountable.

Everyone has their own unique motivations & I'm sure you know what carrots to hold out for your sons and what things they would care about losing.

Stick to those consequences and you should see great results all round.

Best of luck!
