You ladies that have shorter haired yorkies are making me feel better. My husband said I was worrying about nothing and as long as coco is healthy who cares if her hair is long or not. He is right I guess I just really came about this because my aunt owns a Yorkie and she mentioned yesterday why cocos hair was so short and something must be wrong with her because she is too thin. Her yorkie is very oveweight and of course I went on the defense. I lol how I defend coco just like a mom with a human baby when someone talks about her.

What are you feeding her! She might need more Vitamins! My rosey is thin and belive me there is nothing wrong with her! She is on the move all the time! Some ten to be thinner! Better than to fat! Have you had her wormed? Plus she is still growing! lily

I feed her science diet. Is this a good brand? I mix the hard food with the canned food. I do not give her vitamins although reading through this site I think I will start. Are there any vitamins that you guys recommend?

Gracie is a one year old and her hair is not to the floor yet. Still has about three inches to go. Grows very slowly, also her hair is cottony - maybe cottony coats grow slower??

It's not a bad thing to have a short-haired yorkie. It can be a very good thing when you consider that most yorkies look like an unmade bed five minutes after you brush them!

Muffin's hair was silky and grew very fast. It's still too soon to say exactly what will happen with Kacee. Time will tell. I'll love her no matter what her hair does.

I was wondering though if your baby might be losing its baby coat and starting to get its adult coat. It's a thought.

Hi:

Here's how you grow a show coat:

Never brush dirty hair.

Always mist the brush with coat spray.

Bathe every week and use the best shampoo/conditioner you can find or afford. Dilute the shampoo and pour it through the hair and squeeze it through. Don't agitate or scrub. Dry carefully using a layering technique. Start at the bottom, lift upper hair out of the way and begin brushing at the ends of the hair working toward the skin. Don't "flick" your wrist when you're brushing, but brush out straight.

At this age, you should be using a pin brush.

Finish with 1 oz of olive oil, 1 tsp conditioner and 8 oz hot water and pour it through the coat. Leave on. This must be washed out at least once a week.

Keep toenails short.

Keep her free of fleas.

Use rice papers or rubber bands to collect hair that gets dirty fast such as face furnishings and tail/butt hair.

Dogs with the correct coat texture can be slow growing. Black or cottony coats seem to grow very fast. A full-length show coat can take up to 3 years to grow and needs the full body/face wrapped in rice papers. Although a 2-year old generally is very close if not all the way.

I can't tell how long your girl's hair is, but I wouldn't worry too much at this age.

I was talking to some professional show dog gals yesterday and they asked me if I cut Coco short. I said, yes but her hair doesn't grow fast. I've only cut her once and her hair won't grow much. She is also 6 months. The ladies all suggested a bottle called Grizzly salmon oil. It's natural full of vitamins, that's great for coat growth. You just add some to their food. Welcome to YT. Coco is so cute. Gwen has really long hair. She looks like cousin it crawling around the floor and Skippy has really short hair. No matter what their all adorable.
