New To This Forum Have A Question About Hair Growth
 
Hello everyone

I am an owner of a 9 month old Yorkie named Coco. I am new the to yorkie world and I have had my Yorkie since she was 8 weeks old. I am hoping you fellow yorkie owners can hel me with a question

Like I said Coco is 9 months old she will be 10 months at the end of August. I would like to know about hair growth. I look at other yorkies and by the time they are cocos age they aleady have long hair. Coco's hair is short and I am concerned about if it will ever grow. I wanted to know is there something I am doing or not doing or that I can do to promote growth in her hair? Is this normal? Well I guess its not since all the yorkies I see her age have long hair but do some just have slow hair growth? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Yorkie Talk! Some yorkies never grow long hair...they are all different. You could probably tell some from her parents if you happended to see them.

Hello and welcome to Yorkietalk! :) I really can't answer your question about hair growth because I keep my dogs hair short but I am sure someone will be able to help you.

Thank You for the welcome. I have been looking through some of the posts and I am learning so much. Here is a picture of coco. This is my favorite picture of her because she looks so funny to me in it. :)

Aww thank you. Your babies are adorable as well.

I always thought that all Yorkies pretty much looked alike and then I found this website today and I can see the differences in everyones little babies. I always wondered would I be able to pick out coco in a crowd of yorkies. I'm still not sure of that answer :D but I now see how different they all can look. I love being a Yorkie owner and it truly amazes me how smart she is. How much she knows and how much personality she has. Yorkies seem to be very smart dogs.

You would be able to pick Coco out. They all have their own look. Thats one of the things I love about yorkies.

You must groom every day and bathe every weeks with no exemptions. Also when grooming always mist her a mixture of 3 parts water to 1 part conditioner this should her. Also hate to say this but you might have a redlegged yorkie ( a yorkie whos hair grows significantly slower than a normal one). Good luck hope this helps.

Ok I will start doing this immediately I don't brush or comb her every single day and I bathe every 2 or 3 weeks. A groomer at petco told me I should bathe her every 6 weeks. But From reading other things I don't see anything else like that. I dont trust petco groomers anyway they seem so uncaring and rush rush.

I've never heard of a redlegged Yorkie I guess that is what she is then because her hair should have grown a lot by now. I will try what was suggested and also some vitamins and supplements and see what happens

Welcome to YT. Your Coco is so cute and adorable. Gucci just had her first birthday in July and her hair hasnt growing long either. We are from NY also, Manhattan to be exact.
