| Question about Kennel Cough Shot I just took my 12 week old puppy to the vet today for the first time and he had to get the Bortadella (sp?) shot, for kennel cough, the vet said he just had it slightly. He gave it to him through the nose, I'm alittle worried because I didnt know they did it this way. Is there anything I should be looking out for. The vet said that he will be really sleepy and that I could give him half of a baby aspirin if I chose to. Has anyone had any experience with this, if so can you share your experience?! Thanks in advance

| I believe administering the bordatella shot through the nose is fairly common. Mocha got his shot through the nose and there wasn't any problems.

| My Suzi had it and was fine too. It is just a spray the vet uses . SHe was not even sleepy. The Rabies shot is the one that made Suzi sleep.

| I'm baffled Quote:
The intranasal version is very common now, but again, it's preventative. It doesn't help a dog that already has it. I don't do it on my dogs except in special circumstances. On a brighter note, Bordetella is rarely life-threatening even though it's very contagious. It's sort of like a common cold in a human. It runs its course, then it's done. In more severe cases, it requires treatment with antibiotics. You can't "treat" Bordetella by giving a shot to prevent it. | |

Well Ben (my puppy) hadnt had the vaccine yet, so he had to get it anyway. I definitly see what you are saying though. Since he already has a cough, giving him the vaccine now isnt going to make it better, Is that right?

| I may be wrong, but I don't think the OP was implying that her puppy already had kennel cough. I think she was just clarifying that the Bordetella shot is for kennel cough? Quote:

| No, it won't Giving a vaccination if a pet (or even a human) already has the condition doesn't help. Sometimes it can actually make the situation worse. If the health is already compromised, they need to get back to a normal state before introducing anything else. |

| Edward got his kennel cough shot about a month ago & he was totally fine . They put it up his nose too. He wasn't tired or anything either.

| Puff got her nasal vaccination the other day. I think the paperwork sd that she could sneeze some like a respiratory infection in a couple of days. Not sure cause I left the paperwork in the car.
