Love all of your parrot stories. I have a blue and gold macaw, not at home now because she screams so badly if I am not with her every second, she is at my husband's farm with lots of animals. She is so intelligent, calls us by our names, she talks to me on the phone in such a pitiful voice, "DONNA". Had a Maltese and she bossed him around, when he was outside and time to come in she would say, "Kojak, get in here right now!", or come on, come on Kojak". When I had her at home, got a Cockatoo and man, talk about screeming and demanding, she would scream and the macaw would tell her to shut up",well, that just made her scream more, "attention", any kind. When I gave the macaw and treat, she would say, "oooh, it's good, DO YOU LIKE IT?'''I could go on and on about their intelligence. Now I want an African Grey, do they scream a lot???

The parrots name is Cleo, the cockatoo is Shadow. Cleo never said a bad word. Shadow was a nightmare with her screaming and I would spray her with water, she loved it, had a battery operated monkey that jumped up and down, that scared her but not for long, NOTHING worked. One day she screams, "Shut the f---------RIGHT NOW". That is how frustrated she had me, didn't even know I said it until I heard her.

This is Asia my alexandrine parrot ,he does'nt bark but he does call the dogs to the window every time he see someone outside walking their dog so that they can bark their heads off !.This drives me NUTS! The funny thing is the dogs learned that only a certain call means come to the window and look . Asia loves to create a commotion when ever he can.Parrot barks-tmpphp1lbuhz.jpg

Our grey's name is Timmy and he has quite the vocabulary, we took care of a friends poodle once and trained it to go on the gravel drive way to potty, didn't take long, when we let Barney out to go potty, Timmy would holler out,"get up the rocks and go potty Barney, go potty on the rocks Barney." LOL.
We have had our grey 19 years. He calls me all the time Patti this and Patti that, really a lot of company. When the girls bark he tells them," quiet please, NOW."
When I give him treats he says please and thank you.
He is so enjoyable. We have an enclosed patio where he is, so his cage is kept in there, easier to clean up about the floor around his cage, he has a habit of taking his food and tossing it over his back out of the cage we spend most of our time out there and so he really picks up on things from the tv too, he use to sing the hi ho, hi ho it's off to work we go............, and then he picked up me laughing after it and saying that's so stupid.

Donnarod ours never screams, had a Sun Conure years ago and had to give him away he was such a screamer and didn't want Timmy picking up on that.

No, compared to Cockatoos, Greys are very quiet. Sam never makes loud squaws or shrieks or anything like that, and from what I've read that's typical for greys.

That all stopped when we added to our Yorkie family as a couple of them would try to go after Buddy. We also had an African Grey but we re-homed her as they really require more time than I was able to give her. We still have Buddy and a Moluccan Cockatoo named Floyd. You outta hear it when we come home and the dogs are barking, Buddy's squawking and Floyd lets out screeches that would wake the dead.
You have a MOLUCCAN!!! Call us crazy, but that's the next animal my husband and I would like to add to our family. Not until we move out of our townhouse though. Our neighbors would kill us!. If anyone's not familiar with that species, check out mytoos. com. It's a really good site to scare anyone away from wanting a cockatoo on an impulse!

I've been there...closer to the screen now....LOL. Floyd really isn't much trouble. My conure is the noisy one. The thing about M-2's is to never give them more attention than you can on a regular basis or they get quickly spoiled and will let you know it if you ignore them. That, and give them plenty to chew on . Floyd stays in our front room where everything's going on and is quiet except for a couple of shrieks in the morning and evening. He does get more noisy when he thinks it's mating time. He also shrieks when we open the bag with the duck tenders to give the dogs a treat. He's gotta have one, too! That's one of his favorites, along with crab legs and corn on the cob. Talk about a commitment...these guys can live 80+ years. All in all, I think the Greys make a better companion pet. but nothing is quite like an M-2 if you're up for it.

i use to go to our local bird store every few days... The owner had baby parrots , hand fed all the time.. I fell in love with th gray's . Some of her parrots were outside of their cages. The Macaws, and Cokatoos, have ear splitting screams. A pioneous, and African Gray were on the quiet side.
Some day I'll have my gray ! The Congo Gray is the bigger of the two. I have heard that they really don't start talking untill at least a few yrs. old .There was a famous gray named Alex. He understood what to do on command! He was owned by a Scientist who studied his intelligence for yrs.

I have a Cockatoo. She barks and cries just like the dogs. Plus she plays ball with them. She takes the ball or toy to the top of her cage and drops it for them. She loves Noel. Noel is her favorite so she always makes sure she lines it up so Noel gets it. LOL. When she wants to play she'll also call Noeeee Noeeeee and when Noel comes running in to her, she takes the toy lines it up and drops it right on Noel's head and then says Ooops and laughs. LOL. Boo thinks she's one of the girls. All the Yorks sit up on top of the couch and look out the window. Boo flies out to them and sits right there along with them and looks out the window. Elaine
