![]() I also have a grey " Otis " he will call all the dogs by name, he can talk in my voice and my husband voice, he will actually carry on a conversation with himself, he crow like a rooster, moo like a cow, of course barks like a dog, his newest thing is he has finally master the Marines hymn he whistles it from start to finish, my husband taught him that, my son is a Marine. his most annoying thing is the back up horn the tractor makes he will do that non stop. he also tells us when some drive down our road he yells at the top of his voice " someone coming" he also tells me when he wants something special other then his reg food, like I want Apple, Otis is 15yrs old, I hand fed him when he was a baby, he is set in his ways though, moody, hateful at times, and a sweetheart at other times. we also have a cockatoo name bailey he doesn't talk as much as Otis, Bailey is always a sweetheart loves to be held and cuddle.

| ![]() We once had a parakeet that would meow like our cat. My bro in law came down to feed them one day while we were gone and sd he thought we had got another cat that he did not know about. He could see our cat but the sound was coming from the corner with the bird. Our cockatiel could whistle Frosty the Snowman.

![]() Very cute! My parents have a blue and gold that used to LOVE to torture our first dog. She would mimic my mother's voice completely and my poor dog Cherie would come running across the house to my Mother's voice. It took her awhile to figure out the difference. ![]()

![]() Our African Grey Sam loves to torture our Yorkie. He's so smart, like most greys and knows dozens of words and phrases, not to mention microwave timers, cell phone beeps, and creaking doors. He will call her name, tell her "good girl" or "no no." He loves to stand on the apron on the bottom edge of the cage and the two of them play "chicken" Here's a pic of that. But then, sometimes he loses his balance and falls to the floor, and Selah pounces on him and he starts quacking. Oh, it's a zoo. I don't know if they just love to play together that way (they are about the same size) or if they just love watching my husband and I flip out when its time to separate the two of them.

![]() I have wanted a parrot for so long, but I think in order to have one, you must be totally committed, as they have a very long life span.Is it true that they have the intelligence of a five year old?

![]() Well, many parrots show signs of great intelligence, but greys are considered to be the brightest, which can also be a challenge in having them as pets. Sam can open all of his cage doors, so we have to keep them padlocked when he's alone. Also, parrots can get bored easily without a lot of attention and stimulation, and will start plucking their feathers out of boredom. It's such a sad sight, but happens to a lot of birds when people don't know what they're getting into. Parrots can live 40-60 years, and even then some, so it is a long term commitment. Rob and I got our Sam the first year we were married, so we knew he would be a lifelong commitment, just like our marriage!

![]() When we just had one Yorkie (Archie), he and our cherry head conure (Buddy) were best friends. Archie would sit in the recliner and Buddy would fly over to him. He would clean Archie's teeth and Archie would lick him. It was so funny. Our vet once asked us how we kept Archie's teeth so clean. We told her we did nothing, the bird did it. That all stopped when we added to our Yorkie family as a couple of them would try to go after Buddy. We also had an African Grey but we re-homed her as they really require more time than I was able to give her. We still have Buddy and a Moluccan Cockatoo named Floyd. You outta hear it when we come home and the dogs are barking, Buddy's squawking and Floyd lets out screeches that would wake the dead. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
