Yes it is, my Hobbes weighs 22 lbs, and his sister and brother weigh 8-10 lbs! I call him My Big "HUNK of LOVE"

I know this is an old thread, Yorkies do occasionally get bigger than the standard of below 7, but what concerns me, is you don't even know if you are getting a purebred if you go to the CKC. Good breeders try to breed to a standard, but occasionally you have smaller or larger pups than normal. I think the larger yorkies can be great if you have a family with children.

Well, at least the breeder told you the truth about the weight of the puppy. Most lie and tell buyers that the pup will mature at 4 or 5 pounds and they end up with a 10 pound or more dog.Why did you buy him if you knew he was going to be larger? Doesn't seem to make sense to me.

A pup that is 6 lbs at that age obviously has already almost exceeded the standard weight for a Yorkie.

Our Pippa weighs 10 pounds, and our new puppy Kali (6 months) weighs 9 pounds, though when we got her, she was pretty malnourished (you could feel her spine and ribs). While it would have been nice had they been around 5 to 7 pounds. I'm glad both our girls are about the same size... makes for a more pleasant playtime! They are so previous and we love them to death. And while I wouldn't change them for anything, they sure can take up more than their fair share of a king-sized bed!

Susan Lynn, I LOVE your nickname for Hobbes!! There's something to be said about bigger Yorkies ... I'm not afraid of Pippa being around my grandsons (though they are all been taught how to be gentle) or their dogs!
