| Need Advise Martini has been in the house for 3 days now and Remy is being a pain in the butt. She goes up to him and tries to play with him and he either growls at her or runs away from her and jumps in a chair out of her reach. We have gone through the whole sniffing the butt thing. It's like he's scared of her. What can I do? She is a lot smaller than him and I am scared he will hurt her. I don't want to not let them near each other because they have to get use to each other. Anyone have any advise?

| I'm almost in the same boat...I have a 1 1/2 year old male Yorkie and I'm looking to purchase a female puppy. I do have outside cats and have 1 that is 6 months old and 2 new ones only 8 weeks old. The older one for the first few days made cat growls at the 2 younger kittens and even hissed and swatted many times...It took about 1 1/2 weeks for the cats to all get along and even snuggle each other at night. I'm expecting it's going to take a little time and it's only normal for the older one to protect his or her territory. Once Remy figures out the new addition is not going to cause harm or take away from his attention...Things should be good sooner than you think. Keeping them together forces Remy to get use to the new puppy and if you hear things getting too out of hand...A firm "No Remy" usually re-inforces better behavior. |

| When I got Lacey, who is very small, I was experiencing some of the same get to know you issues, but eventually, Chloe would just put her behind in Lacey's face to keep her away without hurting her. I noticed, too, she would go to the back of the sofa or other higher spot, just to make sure Lacey, who could not even get on the sofa, who was boss. You might want to be sure to give the older dog treats first, petting first, etc. so there isn't a feeling of loss of status. Now, mine play like crazy all day. I keep them in their individual kennels, side by side, at night. It seem that after a day of companion, toward night night, they get annoyed with one another, especially the younger one. By morning, they are ready for companionship again. |

| I had 3 adult dogs when I got Dublin, (4, 11 & 13) and at first they couldn't be bothered with the little guy. (Still pretty much the same with the 2 older dogs - they'll play when it suits them. When it doesn't suit them Dublin sits and barks at them trying to change their minds.) About 4 or 5 days after Dublin came home, I was in the den with all 3 of the older dogs laying around and Dublin going back and forth trying to get someone to play with him. Finally he climbed on top of the 4yr old and started nibbling on her ears. I swear I saw a light bulb go off on her little face!! "Hey, this could be fun!" She started playing with him then, and hasn't stopped. Now she acts like she's his mommy! She's 30lbs, and she just naturally seems to know to be careful with the little guy. So give it time. If your "firstborn" is playful, I bet they start to have fun soon. Good luck

| I am letting nature take it's course but I am watching nature too! Remy would give me kisses (some time when it suits him) and now if he could he would lick my nose off my face. Martini likes to kiss A LOT! If I am on my laptop laying on the floor Martini will walk across my keyboard and I will laugh and keep working. Now Remy stomps across my keyboard and I just laugh too and pet and kiss him. I was taking Martini to the vet for her check-up and Remy follow out the door behind us. I didn't take him back inside I called in the house to have someone bring me his carrier and I open the car door and let him in and off we went. I guess every thing takes time. She just looks so a lone because no one will play with her but me and by me always playing with her I hope it's not making it worst.

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | I would defintely say give it time...they have to go through a jealousy stage when someone new comes in the house...they will eventually settle down and become best friends...Magic acted the same way when we brought Sailor home, it took about a week for them to get used to each other and now they are insepartable!! Just be glad you are doing double the kisses and love now....
