| New to Yorkie talk and the Yorkie Breed Hi all! I found this website when I was doing a search on the breed and well, decided I might want to join. I am an expectant Mom of a Yorkie. My Yorkie will be arriving this Friday 8/8. I am adopting a 1 1/2 year old little guy from a family that no longer has the time for him. He was a gift for their teenage daughter and well, she no longer has the time that he craves and has become a handful because of it. He is neutered and up to date on all shots. He is used to younger children and other animals, so I think he will fit in just perfectly here at our house. As for me, I am a stay at home Mom to two children, in Indianapolis and the oldest of the two will be going to school full time this year. My daughter and I will be lonely, but I am sure the new puppy will help kill time. So, does anyone have advice on how to make the little guy feel welcome and transition into his new home? He will be coming with his bed, crate and well, all of his belongings, so we have that going for us. I will also be bringing him home in the morning, so he will have almost all day to get settled in somewhat before bedtime that night. It may take me some time to learn this site and its features and look forward to getting to know all of you. Have a great day! Mary |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Welcome to Yorkietalk, I so glad your little guy has found a home where he will get the love and attention he deserves. Rehoming is always tough for animals and some have a set back with house breaking at this time, but I'm sure he will catch on. Do you know if he's outside or pee pad trained? I know Joey loves walks and always seems happier if he gets a walk in, and they sleep better too. Try to maintain the same diet for a week or so, so that any health problems won't be attributed to new food. Is this your first Yorkie?

Yes this our first Yorkie. I have done some reading on raising them, but haven't found much advice on rehoming. I intend to keep him on his food, as I know this can upset any dogs digestive system. I believe he is on dry only, so I don't know if I will need to add a wet food as well or not. I know its going to be rough going for awhile, but I think he will enjoy having the attention he once had. My daughter is just as excited as I am. I have a picture of him to show her, but she just can't wait. I intend to pass the time getting his room ready and reading as much as I can to be prepared for his transition. This is someone that I have wanted for quite sometime and hope that I can make him happy. Thank you for all the welcomes and will keep everyone posted once he gets here. Mary | |

| Hi Mary, welcome to YT!!! It's nice to know he (name?) has found a loving family to give him all the love, care and attention he so deserves and needs. I also rehomed to adult yorkies, Prissie and Might, Prissie was 2 and Might was a few months shy of being 3. I think they transitioned fairly well, the first day was a little hard as I already had Miko and Kylie, who I had since they were puppies and were now the same age as Prissie and Might. Might attached himself to me and wouldn't let Miko get near me, it was so sad to see my poor Miko wanting to get close to me and hearing Might growl at him. At first I didn't think it would work out, but within a few days everything was fine and that was 3 years ago! That's good that you are getting all his belongings, they will make him feel a little more at ease, patience and alot of loving and attention are the key to make the transition go well. He will definitely attach himself to one person, the person that makes him feel more safe until he feels more secure in his new home. Good luck, there is a world of information here on YT and so many helpful members, just ask anything we are all here to help. No matter how meaningless you might think the question is, it's like the saying goes the only stupid question is the one not asked. Have fun with your new little guy. Can't wait to see pics!! |

| Welcome!! I'm live in Plainfield. It's so wonderful you are going to give this boy a great home! With so many wanting to breed these days and bring new pups into the world, it's refreshing to hear about little ones that need a good home, finding one. Good for you for adopting him. You are in for a treat! They are so much fun. Sounds like you are trying to educate yourself as much as possible for him. I'm excited for you! Looking forward to updates!

| to YT!! What is your little guys name?? Can't wait to see photos!! I would try and keep the house kind of quiet that first day and let him look around and get used to the house. Sit on the floor and let him come to you, don't let your kids run after him. Especially when he is getting used to you all. I would find out what his favorite treats are and let the kids feed some to him so he associates good things with your kids. Good Luck!
