| help me to understand, please I have a 6 yr old spayed female yorkie. She is a very sweet little girl. I've had her since she was 9 weeks old. She has one bad behavior that I don't understand. She becomes very aggressive when you try to pick her up. She gets very upset. She will growl ferociously and grab at my hand. I have to put eye drops in her eyes several times a day. I will go to her and pet her and talk sweet to her. Sometimes she will let me pick her up with no trouble and other times she does as I said above. Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong or why she may behave this way. All suggestions welcome. dcoff827 |

| I'm by no means any kind of expert but maybe she has a sore spot or injury of some kind you are not aware of. |

| My 6 yr old female yorkie does the same but its her backside area if i try to trim the hiney hairs or even mess with her back legs she growls. I have no idea what is wrong with her. (I wonder if its just because they are getting older) Im curious to know what you find out. Good Luck

| I don't have that problem with my yorkies but I have an older lab that when I go to pet her on her hips or mover her around and wash near her hips she growls but she has bad hips and they hurt her. Your baby may be hurting somewhere when you pick her up.

| Sometimes they growl when they are in pain or having some type of injury or medical condition that has gone unnoticed. Other than that, all I can think is that maybe it's a behavioral issue. I hope you can figure out how to get her to cooperate!

| Maybe she associates you picking her up with the eye drops. I know I hate eyedrops and she prob does too. Just a thought.

| Duke doesn't do this to me, but he will do it to other people at times. If he is by me and someone tries to move him he will growl and try to bite, or if he is by a door or something and someone tries to move him away, if he feels threatened by them he will do the same thing. It's mostly with men and I think that is because he had negative experiences with my father when I first got him. If yours has always been this way, maybe something is making her feel threatened. Or maybe you should try picking her up a different way

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My 11 year old pom does that too. Some days I can pick her up no problem others she will bite me. I have a real hard time cleaning the gook out of her eyes. I have to try and quickly do it before she bites me. I have had her since she was 11 weeks old. When I take her to the vet or groomers they have no problem with her and she will let me do anything to her in front of them so they must think I am nuts when I say she bites me. I figured she was this way due to being a pet shop dog with questionable breeding, but have never benn able to break her of her aggressiveness.

| Loki gets eye drops every day too. Then he gets his other medication that tastes like meat - he thinks it is a treat. He sits for the eye drop and I always give the "treat" second. Can you try that? Give her a treat after the eyedrop every time - maybe even before AND after. Only give her that special treat (something REALLY GOOD, like cheese) when you do the drops. I also agree with everyone that said make sure she doesn't have any other medical issues.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | It makes me think she is in pain. Did this start before or after the drops?

| My first thought was has she always done this or could she be associating being picked up to getting drops in her eyes? I would try to tempt her onto your lap while sitting on the floor at her level without actually touching her or picking her up...just get her comfortable coming to you and make it fun, not a chore just to medicate her. She'll feel better and you'll feel better doing it if she isn't stressed out in any way. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
