| Hi! Thinking about getting a yorkie... Hi all, I would appreciate any information or suggestions you might make after reading my post. I am looking into getting a Yorkie. I live alone (with my Quaker Parrot) in an apt. in the city... I am hoping to have a dog that I can take with me when I am out -- he/she will be coming with me wherever I go as often as possible. Which leads me to a question -- do any of you ever take your dogs in public places such as the conveinience store, marts like Target (I'm sure grocery stores wouldn't allow it)? How do the mart attendants respond, if so? Can you guys tell me a little bit about what care is required? I've had dogs in my past, so I understand they are quite dependant. That's not an issue for me. But my thing is that I must be out and about doing things, so it would be coming on many adventures with me. This isn't likely to upset pup is it? -D |

| Most Yorkies do well going along with their owners during their day to day events. You will really enjoy having your Yorkie with you! Health Departments in most (maybe all?) will not allow animals to be in any establishment which sells/prepares food. Otherwise, I take mine practically everywhere! |

| First of all welcome to YT. I take my two almost everywhere with me. I keep them in their little carriers, and nobody seems to mine. I wouldn't take them in a grocery store or resturant, but just about everywhere else. Do you need any information on the breed? Their are a lot of people on here that would be willing to help you find the right yorkie for you. |

| Way cool! Thanks guys! = ) I'd love information on the breed... I hear the yelping is quite an issue. I live in an apt... is there a way to keep him contented while I am away -- like, will they grow out of this? I know some chihuahua's never overcome their anxiety issues... but I'm sure it is something that would come with training/patience if it were a problem...? I can't think of anything else I really need to know as of now... but I am open to anything and everything one might like to tell me about! Does anyone know of any breeders in MN? I am looking for a Yorkie on the smaller side of the fence! : ) However, I'm not able to spend much more than $600 right now. I've heard about the "Tiny Yorkies" and the "Teacup Yorkies" - are these the same off shoot breed? How does one know for sure they would be getting a Teacup? I'm concerned about coming across a breeder I can trust (as for health issues along with the money issue, as these little devils aren't what I'd call "cheap"!!) ... maybe you guys can help me out. Tacksa Mykket! (Thank you!) -D |

Anyway, I'd love to adopt an adult dog as well... yet it seems Yorkie adoptions are rare, probably for good reason! ; ) Well, if any one can help me out, please let me know. Thank you! | |

| Yorkies have a lot of labels, but they are all just one breed (as opposed to poodles and miniture poodles). They can't really predict how small a Yorkie will be. Brody's parents were 4 pounds each, but I think he is closer to 5 pounds now. It all probably depends on what you feed them too. The tiniest of Yorkies usually cost more. I wouldn't pick up a Yorkie from the breeder until he is at least 12 weeks old, but that's just my opinion. My mom saw a woman with a Yorkie in her purse inside Walmart the other day and nobody said anything to her. My mom said the dog was acting perfectly fine. You can probably train them to be quiet in certain situations. I never had problems with Brody barking until recently. Just don't give in to them when they bark. Brody barks when he wants something and can't get it himself (like a toy that's on a table too high for him). For the most part, Brody is a really quiet dog and he would be fine in an apartment. Just don't tolerate barking from the beginning, and he won't do it. We always thought Brody's barking was so cute - not so much anymore!
