| Am I over reacting? When we first got Bently we started using a new Vet that was close to our house. First shot (injected by vet) went ok.... 2nd shot (injected by vet tech) caused a small swollen area and infection that had to be lanced and antibodics given for 5 days to heal) 3rd shot given by Vet no problems..... 4th shot given by vet tech is causing same type of infection and swollen area... I'm sure it will have to be lanced.... Question: Do I make vet tech mad by telling the Vet I don't want Bently treated by tech again or should I just find another Vet? Bently is almost old enough to think about being fixed and I don't think I want the vet tech anywhere near him for major surgery. I'm going in on Friday to speak to the vet about my concerns. |

It's a Yorkie Thing Donating Member | From what you posted I would guess the vet tech is not administing in the correct location. He should not have problems with one shot and not the next unless they are two different vaccinations. I think I would visit with the vet before I set up any surgery that will be done. My vet also lets me be with my yorkies when they have gone into surgery. You might consider this, that way you can know what's happening. Good luck and best wishes.

| If you like you Vet, I would stick with him but.....I would definately say that I didn't want the Vet Tech to treat my baby anymore. Our little sweeties are too precious to put them in the hands of someone that apparently doesn't have the right skills to treat them. Why did they give you the Vet tech? I would just explain to the Vet your concerns and I'm sure everything will be fine. Good Luck! |

| I don't think you are overreacting at all. I am very particular about my girls and I pay extra for the vet to administer any vaccines my girls get. I've never had an issue, just feel much more comfortable with the vet doing this since I know how particular she is as well.

| If you like the vet, then there really isn't a reason to switch. That tech would NOT be touching my dog anymore though. I'm sure they have more than one tech there and you could schedule the surgery when another one is working. I'd talk to the vet about it.

| Talk to the vet and tell him you don't want a tech giving your baby shots any more. If he gives you attitude THEN you need to switch. I swear! Why do we beat ourselves up over these things. For Pete's sake we are PAYING them to treat our pets. They OWE us the kind of care we request. |

| My vet tech only weighs Bella. I would definately speak to the vet in private about your requests. Bella is never out of my sight...well except during the spay. If you vet doesnt agree to do all the work..then yes find another. I dont think you are over reacting at all |

| I would go and have a chat with the vet and air your concerns...If you don't like what you hear then find another vet..this should NOT be happening! does the vet know about this? I'm surprised he/she hasn't talked to you about it yet.. You pay good money and put your precious baby in their care so you should be getting 100% excellent service no more, no less!

| There are 3 vets in practice at the office we go to and I had a note put on Abby and Daisy's file that I only wanted Dr. Thomas to treat them. Maybe you could do something like that. There were no problems when I requested it.

| Good question..... I work in healthcare (human ) and you wouldn't believe how people just go along with whatever anyone wants to do to them and never speak up. Think about it like this~ You are the employer and your vet is the employee that you have hired to work for you to perform his services. If your employer was not satisfied with your performance he would not hesitate to let you know. should not be afraid to speak up when you are not satisfied with their services. If you went to McDonalds and ordered a burger w/o mustard you would have no problem speaking up and sending it back to be corrected.

| I agree with Lou. If the vet shows the slightest sign of attitude, I would switch vets immediately. Folks who work in close proximity every day often have an "us against the world" mindset which can't be easily overcome. It reminds me of once when I had found a great mechanic to work on my car. He was reasonable on rates, did his work quickly and dependably. Then this crooked, good-for-nothing cokehead came to work for him. I didn't want this guy touching my car because I knew exactly what kind of person and mechanic he was. The touchy part was that he was the good mechanic's brother. All I could do was move on and find another mechanic. |
