| The battle is on So I can't let Maya sleep with me until she is a little older. I was keeping her near me so that we could bond, and while I am touching her at night I can tell if she stirs, that is how I know the late night potty break is needed. But last night she just strutted to the end of my bed and went. ugh. So her little area is ready and I think she needs to start getting used to it. So after changing sheets I put her where her open crate, paper, water, and toys are. Oh lord...can anything that small keep up such a ruckus. I'm afraid she is going to stroke out, but she can't be right up under me every second of the day. Someone tell me she will adjust please.

| We had the same thing go on with Mika, but noticed that after she got a little older where she slept all night, that stopped, because when you got up in the morning you were both ready to go LOL...

| Mine always slept with me also after trying the kennel thing and them screaming all night long. I guess I was just a sucker for a crying dog. We did have a few accidents in the beginning, but once they learned to sleep all night long, that went away also. I know they will eventually get used to it, but I don't know how long it takes. |

| I had a small playpen next to my bed when Gizmo was little. I could reach over and pet him and comfort him during the night and he knew we were there, but he wasn't in bed with us. Maybe a compromise like that might help? I know of others who do the same thing except using a crate set on the end table. They are stubborn little things, aren't they?

| Now you talk about some hollering!!! If you think being in her new room is a problem., put miss thing in that crate.....you need to call an army general. She upset herself so bad in the crate that she threw up big time. I knew she was trouble when I picked her out LOL. Now knowing as much as I know about her so far, I think that having been in the bed, NEAR me won't do for her. We had 3 good nights and only two bad ones, so I may reevaluate all of this at bedtime tonight. One thing that happened was after we had settled in around 11:30, some bozo kid in the neighborhood deccided to set multiple firecrackers off right outside my bedroom window. This starteled both of us, but one thing I like about Maya already is she lets little spook her. However, I think that her sleep being interrupted was what led to the mistake a couple of hours later. We'll see.

| Now Haruka sleeps with me but she didn't for a couple months when I got her. I had a little bigger crate. I put pee pad (it was same size as pee pad -crate) then I put her bed and water and food. (because she was really tiny and had hard time eating, I didn't do the food only certain time thing..) And there was place for her to go to pee and poop. I put the crate right next to my bed. So when she cries.. I told her "No" but assured her that I was there..... Then soon she just became a alarm clock in the morning when I usually lifted her up and said hello! For me at least.. I didn't want to put her in playpen for the first few months because playpen seems to be much bigger and I couldn't put it in my bedroom. But when I really had to leave her at home during the day, I put her in the playpen. I put the shower curtain on the floor and put the playpen on the top of it. So I didn't have to worry about ruining the floor. She didn't very good with that. I am sure it is never too late!! SO good luck! and I am sure she can do it. Only you can do is to be "Wicked" patient

I Love My Babies Donating Member | I wanted TJ to sleep with me. So from the very start he did. I have a little soft sided carrier and I put a tiny bed, his tiny blanket and his favorite teddy bear in that. He had room to stretch out and snuggle up to his bear. This I put up by my pillow. If the room was chilly.(winter time) I put a soft blanket over it and just left the front (by my face) uncovered. This worked very well. If he started wiggleing around much (the potty dance) I would immediately take him out to potty. Praise him when he went, and then it was right back to bed with no playing, In the morning, after he went out to potty, then we would have a few minutes play time and cuddle time until it was time to get up. This worked so well... Ther were no accidents on the bed. We had our nightly play time before bed time.. when we went to bed, it was love you baby, some snuggles and into the carrier. As he got older the time he was allowed out to snuggle lasted longer before being put in his carrier to sleep. They are smart little angels and it did not take much time and he was just sleeping snuggled up next to me. So we were fortunate that there were no accidents on the bed. Smart TJ.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Well you got lots of great tips, when Joey graduated to our bed we put a pee-pad on a chest at the foot of the bed, and he used that during the night. Later, we added steps, and the pee pad was moved to the floor.

| I had this same problem about one week ago. The late night potty breaks where driving me crazy and she wet the bed one time. I put her crate near my side of the bed with a towel covering 3 of the 4 sides. Each time she would cry I would take a shoe (puppy kindergarten suggested tennis balls but I have TONS of shoes) and throw it at her cage. It still took some time getting used to it but by the tenth show she was just wimpering instead of full on screaming. She has slept in her cage for 4 nights now and I no longer have to throw any shoes, the second I put her in the cage she is silent. She had an accident in her cage the first two nights but the third and fourth she didn't go but she will RUN out when I open the door and go right away. Hopefully she will be able to get used to the hours and then I can bring her back in the bed without worrying about her having and accident. P.S. I hate to say it but I have slept alot better without her in the bed. Not having to worry about her getting up or using the restroom in the middle of the night was making me a REALLY light sleeper Good Luck! |

| We hav been very lucky with Buttons, no accidents on the bed. He used to sleep in his crate, I couldn't take the crying for more than a few days so we put him in a very comfy bed of his own,(sometimes with mom in the big bed.) which he loves. Now that he is older 2.5 we let him out around 10 pm and then we tell him to go to bed, her either jumps on our bed or he goes and gets in his bed, and buries himself under the covers and is there all night. I have to wake him up in the morning to take him out.

| I usually let them sleep with me and also have a crate set up. At first I like to crate train ad then get them use to sleeping in bed. (I like to get them use to being in the pen and not barking, that way in the future they don't have a problem with it.) Teach them young…and it will pay off in the end.
