I know someone else just joined in the last week or 2 that lives in Arlington, but works in Alexandria -- I think it would be of advantage to the committee to add some local folks. JMO - I do think we have an awesome committee. But it might help to have someone who can be a face-to-face person if need be with the hotel, etc

That would be me, and I don't mind offering advice to those coming to the area if there are any specific questions. E.g., try to avoid Dulles if possible (unless a huge price differential) b/c it's a solid 45min to 1hr drive to Alexandria with no really good public transportation to make that trip. Reagan, on the other hand, has a metro station (subway) inside the airport that you can just hop on to the King street Alexandria station.

This is so...however, pricing will be a factor. Note, you can drive the Dulles Airport Road straight from the airport without having to experience the traffic and tolls. Same for driving to the airport. There is more to this...but this is the basics I will have to get into the special travel hours for those who want more details just pm me. I also stated this airport because some people visiting the area, think flying into Baltimore (BWI) is a good idea due to pricing. Traffic is worse going there. You will actually have to weigh your options. However, if the hotel is on a metro line then Regan would be more beneficial. Not all hotels offer transportation. Also, note that the metro rail does NOT allow animals unless they are service animals. This cause a problem due to the fine and federal offense. Note too that you are not allowed to eat food on the metro rail trains.

Now, there is a free shuttle to Old Town Alexandria from the metro. It drops you off on in the most popular area where the majority of hotels are located.

This is the King Street metro Stop. Braddock stop has some hotels near it as well.

In this instance the only positive is that if you decided to leave your furbabies in the hotel and want to take the metro rail somewhere...you can do so with out the need of a car.

I think I will be able to go to this one!! I brought it up to my DH and he thinks it sounds good! I am so excited to learn more about the date and such. I sent for a visitors guide while I was on a web site for Alexandria VA. It looks like it will be a great place for our furbabies, I couldn't believe all the dog friendly places listed! WOW! It's only about an eight hour drive for us and my husband will have 2 weeks vacation time to play with by then! Oh I am so excited! It will be so nice to meet all of you too!

Yes, this is open to YT members and their yorkies. We had the first one in Kansas City in June - it was a blast. We had about 50 yorkies and all kinds of YTers, some husbands and boyfriends. No male YTers showed up - hopefully some will next summer

This is more great advice. Due to the airport access road, Dulles may be a better option if you are planning on renting a car while you are in town. A possibly cheaper flight into Dulles and renting a car may make better sense than a more expensive flight to Reagan. Dulles is often cheaper.

I second staying away from BWI. It's just too much of a drive. Plus, you won't get a good enough price over Dulles to justify it.

Lastly, that's good to know about animals on the metro. I wasn't sure on their policies. In that case, an airport taxi from Reagan won't cost you much to get to Alexandria (it's around 5 miles).

Wow Alexandria huh? I live like an hour or so away. We could just drive there. We will probably go as long as my husband drives. I do not like the traffic in the DC area.

I'm not from this area (from the Pittsburgh, PA area) but we now live in Maryland. It was really nice to drive to Alexandria and check things out for next year's meetup. It is so pretty there and everyone was super friendly. ;) I can't wait to go again and meet everyone. :D

I think the cruise would be so cute to go on. We wanted to do this when we were there but we missed it. There were tons of people and furry babies everywhere. They can only take a certain amount of people at one time. Since there will be a big group of us, maybe they could do a special YT cruise during the weekend. :D

I live in Myrtle Beach,SC and I am looking foreward to going to the 2009 Event and can't wait to bring all 3 of mine with me! I'm excited to see and meet all the other Yokie's and other YT. Members! Not too far of a drive this time? I'm waiting to hear all the Travel detail's and announcements. I'm sure you all will keep us all posted?

Unless you don't mind horrible traffic (remember it's right there at DC) I'd advise not driving. We know people who live there and work in DC and it takes them 2 hours to get just a few miles. It's as bad as LA. The doggie cruise sounds like it would be a great thing to do! :)
