Yorkie Yakker | itchy puppy? Little dog just got groomed yesterday. She looks adorable. I'll post pictures as soon as I get them downloaded. But the real question here is...how do I keep her from constantly scratching at herself. I know she's clean and flea free. Her hair is alot shorter too. Now we have the scratching problem. She looks miserable. I can't seem to figure out what is making her itch! How do I help her? |

| Was she scratching before you took her to the groomer, if she wasn't I'd think it was a reaction to a product they used. If she was scratching prior to being groomed it could be an allergy. Is Your Pet Itching for Relief? |

| Stop Itch If it were my baby, I would rinse her and use a product called stop itch, I use for my Gizom he is a walking Itch...LOL I make sure all the shampoo is off his skin, let the Equine Stop Itch sit for 5 minutes... rinse him well.... Then I rub oil on my finger tips and put it all over his skin... Boy does it help him.... Maybe someone else will have some other tips...but this helps his little pink itchy skin.:woof

| It does sound like maybe the shampoo they used has irritated her skin, I 2nd the opinion that rinsing her off might help. You might want to find out what they used so that next time they can use something else.

Senior Yorkie Talker | hank was in the same situation. if it was going on before she went to the groomer it might be a yeast infection (or beginnings of). Hank had this and i had no clue he had it. After some one informed me about yeast infections i started to see the signs. Not professional info but this is what i have learned 1. Yorkie's are really susceptible to yeast infections 2. They start in the ears when your baby scratches their ears it transfers/spreads to their legs and so on and so forth throughout their body 3. A mid to late sign of a yeast infection is a pungent smell of the ear canal. Ear cleaner really helps this ( if this is the problem!) I use a home remedy approved by my vet as well. I mix: 1/2 parts alcohol 1/4 parts vinegar and 1/4 parts hydrogen peroxide The alcohol dries the ear canal because the fungus cant grow in a dry place The vinegar increases the acidity and kills the fungus/infection and yeast bacteria. And the Hydrogen peroxide helps to heal the damaged tissue. for the skin i use an anti fungal shampoo called SOOTHE* I hope this helps |

Yorkie Yakker | Thanks for all you help. I think Little Dog gets excited and scratches. She will scratch on my DH lap but the moment I pick her up, there is no more itching! This is the strangest thing I've seen. I am going to try to bath her again. But it will have to be Sunday. I have to work the next 2 days and she just had flea med put on. But thanks for all you help! |
