| What!?!? Okay so I just dropped Keelyn off for her 3rd round of Vaccinnes...last set she had a case of mucusy diahrrea for about a week then it subsided on it's own. Really I don't know if the shots are even what caused it. Well, Banfield is now making me pay 64$ everytime she gets shots and hold her for 4 hours while they do preventative IV stuff. Is this absurd!? I am paying them already! And she said I had no choice if I wanted to get her vaccinated there. Ugh, does anyone have an authoritative Banfield number for me to call? My poor baby My poor wallet sigh...anything for my puppy, but still! ridiculous! |

| I think I'd be switching vets. That is not at all normal procedure. Ellie had a severe reaction to her vaccines once and the one that most likely caused it (lepto) is now left out. She has only gotten one distemper single since then. She got a shot of benadryl and 15 minutes later was given the vaccine. We also waited about 30 minutes after together in the waiting room to make sure all was well. I wouldn't be convinced your pup needs an IV at all. If they want to give benadryl before and/or watch her for awhile after, you could stay for that in my opinion.

| vaccine Find a vet who is experinced with Yorkies..you might call a her breeders in your area to ask for a referral...then go to the vet, get puppy shots, no Lepto, go home and never deal with Banfield again... |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Why IV??? Maybe I missed something??? IV for what?? Stay 4 hours for what??? Aiden is 5 mo. He went to the vet 3 times total since I got him at 8 wks. We don't use Lepto in our area, per my vet ..he doesn't use it,because out of the 52 uses for it Lepto covers 2...Why bother. It's out West and we're upsate N.Y. but back to the shots. Aiden has 3 vet visits. First visit was weight.examined pvts and head to toe exam .He was given some oral meds once and two shots. The other ones were sub Q. One in the back of the neck and second one in hind leg-two different spots(so we would know if there was a reaction, and what it was from) He got 2 sots at a time max!!! Rabies once at last visit ,and Lyme twice and distemper twice at first and second visits. Aiden hated the Lyme, but when he had his first set of shots, the vet advised me that the little ones need baby asprin prn afterwards for fever and joint discomfort, all normal reactions. I've had no problems with any of my animals with this Vet and their shots, including my 3 cats. My vet is part of our family, and he never charges me unnecessary charges. Aiden is going to be spayed at 6 mo. in August. When he's under he will pull any un needed baby teeth,at no extra charge. Look for another vet. They are treating your family members!!! It should not be about money as much as a love and interest in taking care of animals. My vet trained under his grandfather, and father all now retired vets. Curt just opened a new vet clinic, further from his old place of business, now on his own,but he's worth the drive, and I've referred so many people to him that he gives me alot of treatment for little or no costs!!!

| I have to say I have never heard of a 'contract' with a vet. Why do you have a contract? |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | What does that mean? You've agreed to pay a set amount a month that covers her visits??

| Well Banfield has you pay a monthly fee to cover all vet visits, vaccinations, and spaying. However now I am responsible for paying this 64$ because not all pets require this treatment, only the reactors. I just filed a complaint with the headquarters I am on the verge of tears. My baby is there being traumatized right now for no reason . The IV was for the fluids if she needs them and they are giving her benadryl etc and held her there so they can monitor her temp and heartbeat etc. Her reaction wasnt that bad to require this |

Can you go get your pup and just leave? Ellie didn't even require an IV after her reaction. I think this is ridiculous. Monitoring temp and heart rate is okay but for four hours? I'd bring him home and keep an eye on him. Make sure his gums are pink. If he starts vomiting watch him more closely. If a reaction were to continue (collapsing, pale gums, swelling) go to a different vet immediately. If he has been watched for more than 30 minutes, chances are VERY slim that anything serious is going to happen. Not that it can't, but I wouldn't be too concerned since it was just mucousy stool last time. So Ellie's vet likes her to stay for about 30 minutes and we watch her closely at home for the next day or so.
