| ![]() I'm terribly embarrassed to admit this...my husband recently saw on television that you can detect pet urine stains on carpet with a black light. At night, we turned off all of the lights and went over the carpet with a black light and we were disgusted by what we saw. There were stains everywhere in every room of the house! We did this a day after we throughly cleaned the carpets with a rented Rug Doctor type contraption. I am a little confused because some of the stains, although not as many, were under our couch in an area or carpet which has never been exposed. Did we spread it around when we cleaned the carpet? The stains don't really smell, but now that I know they are there, I'd really like to get rid of them. What products have you used and what works best? |

| ![]() I don't think I want to try this (and definitely not when my husband is in the room (lol). I'm sure I would not like what I would see. If something really works, let us know.

| ![]() Ive done the black light test.... frightening huh? Mine was from my 16 year old cat.... nice,,, cat pee is the worst! Use this great stain/odor remover... I've posted it before on here,it always gets good results.... 1. normal size bottle of hydrogen peroxide 2. 1 tablespoon of baking soda 3. 1 teaspooon of Dawn dishsoap mix together and pour on stains....or put in squirt bottle and spray.. dont leave in the bottle can combust... ( I guess) It wont stain or do anything to colored carpets,,I've used it on all types. Hope it helps,,, I used it for ODOR remover, but people say it helps with stains. ![]()

| ![]() I personally haven't tried doing the blacklight test and quite frankly i'd be a bit afraid to see what i'd find! I actually took out my carpet and put hardwood floors in. And to my amazement The bottom of the carpet was full of urine stains ![]() |

| ![]() Well, you caused me to do some research. This says that steam cleaners will set the stains and not to use them. ![]() http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/ou...and_odors.html Good luck! ![]()

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | ![]() We did the black light test a couple of weeks ago and we were so disgusted by what we saw we went the next week and had hardwood floors put in...we want to anyone and this was just a way to push us towards it...we just couldn't believe how dirty the carpet was, and we thought we had being cleaning up really well... In my opinion: DO NOT USE THE BLACKLIGHT TEST!!! (unless you like to be grossed out)

| ![]() ![]() ![]() Geeezzz, I don't want to do it but now I'm going to have to, lol. Then I'll be hiring a professional cleaner too! Sully peed in our house a LOT when he was a pup. He never does anymore, but I'm sure there are plenty of spots we missed or didn't clean up well enough, OMG.

| ![]() Regarding pee under the couch: That doesn't suprise me. Tinkerbell would squeeze under the couch and all the beds to pee when she was little. I had to stuff blankets under all the beds and couch so she wouldn't do it. |

| ![]() I have been raving about this product for the past year, better than Natures Miracle and was just named Dog product of the year by Dog magazine. It is called "Get Serious" organic stain extractor, easy to use, takes away stain and smell and no scrubbing. I love this stuff, use it for everything including stained upholstery, in my car, clothing, etc. Its available at Petsmart and I swear by it. Zig zag into stain, put old towel or cloth on it and come back and it is gone!!!! |

| ![]() This is why I went with tile when we removed our old carpet in our bedroom. You could see stains that you never smelled or knew were there on the pad under the carpet. It was disgusting!!! Not to mention the huge pile of dirt that I swept up after removing the pad. Now we only have carpet upstairs and I plan to pull that up next and replace it with hardwood floors- well that material that looks like wood and snaps together. Tile is so much easier to keep clean! I think with animals in the house- whether they are house trained or not- tile or something other than carpet is the way to go.
