| Dog Sunglases: FUNCTION OR FASHION I've noticed a lot of little yorkies with sunglasses. I really need to know if this is just a fashion accessory or do they really protect our babies' eyes. If they are for protection, I need three pairs. We go to the lake often, but during the 4th of July weekend, the girls will be out by the water for longer periods and this will be Glory B's first trip. I did notice last year that Lexie's eyes seemed smaller out by the water, so that's why I'm asking. I appreciate the info!

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | That's a good question. I've always wondered. They are marketed as being helpful for their vision, but I think it's just a gimmick. I will say this: I take mine on bike rides in an open trailer, and I think some doggles would be helpful. I have some designer sunglasses more for show, but they work good for that.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | For people or dogs? And if they're OK for people, why not dogs?

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Yeah, I agree if they're used for fashion. But if I put doggles on them in a bike trailer, I think it's ok. It's a safety thing.

Gracie is just now big enough to wear the smallest size. I need to get a new picture with her wearing hers.

| I have read that they can protect their eyes from the rays of the sun when they will be outside for a long time. So, they can serve either purpose.

| In my house we use sunglasses as fashion accessories for photos!! Here is one of my chi Bitsy in her "Rose colored glasses" and goldilocks wig!! And one of my chi Baby in his motorcycle jacket and "John Lennon" glasses! Cute, huh?

| Thanks for all the replies and cute photos. And a note to ALASKAYORKIE and JAYA AND JENNA, I always enjoy reading your banter. It has always been in the back of my mind if I should get protective wear for them, and now I'm convinced I should, especially for Lexie since she's nonstop in and out of the water and running up and down the shore. When we're on the boat, they stay low. They have their bed right in front of the passenger seat in the open storage compartment. Now to find doggles and get them by July 2nd.

| Well, I know everyone realizes this so I'll just say it to be redundant. The sun poses as much of a problem for our pets' eyes as it does for our own. They are vulnerable to the same eye health issues as we are when it comes to sun exposure. And I don't know if your dogs stare right at the sun, but I see Max doing it sometimes when we're in the car. That can't be good for him. I think they look cute (and kinda funny) but my real reason for using them is for their eyes' sake. I want his eyesight to last as long as he does if possible. We also have horrendous wind/sand storms that come up here in the desert, and if he's gotta go, he's gotta go....I don't want his corneas getting abraded by the blowing sand.

Therapy Dog Donating Member | Izzy has a pink pair that I finally figured out how to put on her when I took them to KC and had Jodie help me figure the darn things out. Izzy's face is so small that even the xxs is still a little big on her but I do want to use them while in the bike basket when we take our rides. I'll have to take a pic and post. I love the pics posted in this thread with the furbutts and their Doggles....I love them!
