| New to YT...So glad I found this site! Hi everyone! I am new to this site. I just recently bought my first yorkie and of course had to buy 2. Their names are Chewie and Yoda (chewie is the biggest and yoda is the smallest). I have a 110lb yellow lab and the kids wanted something they could snuggle with and hold, which isn't Reno (our lab). I bought them at 9 weeks old. They were 3.1lbs and 2.7lbs at 12 weeks. I took them today for their 4mos check up and they almost doubled their weight, they are 5.1 and 4.1. Is this normal to gain that much in a month? When I got them from the breeder, she gave me a Eukanuba puppy kit. I had them on that food for the 1st month and they pooped alot. Then they wanted our labs food, which is Purina Dog Chow and wouldn't eat their food anymore. I gradually switched them to Purina Beneful and they ate aggressively for a couple of weeks, pooped less and now they won't eat that. Not sure what to try them on or if I should keep putting out this food and eventually they will eat. I thought maybe the weight gain was from the Purina. Not sure since I can't tell if it is normal to gain almost 2 pounds in a month. Sorry to ramble on, this breed is new to me since I have always had large breeds: German Shepard, Golden Retriever and Labs. Thanks for any info and guidence! Candy |

| So glad I found this site Quote:
You will get a lot of good information here. Tricksie was raised on Eukanuba but at 3 months she quit so we switched to Innova EVO dry and I mix it with Pedigree wet. She is almost 2 and weighs 9 lbs, and little chubby. Can't wait to see pics.

| Welcome to YT! We are glad to have you here. There are many here that can answer your questions you will have. Here's a link to an average puppy growth chart. Yorkshire Terrier Puppy Growth/Weight Chart You can find their age on the left when they were 9 weeks old then go over to the right until you find what they weighed. If you go down that column it will show you the average weight gain until they are full grown. You would be wise to switch to a higher quality food. They will definitely poop less and have better nutrition. There are many good quality foods out there, but they are not sold at grocery stores or Wal-Mart. I feed mine Canidae, but there are many others that are good as well. Once you get a good food don't keep switching or you will create very finicky eaters. If they are hungry enough they will eat. Hope this helps!

| Welcome to YT! This is a great site with loads of information. When I joined 2 yrs ago I was clueless on the breed. This site has educated me on the breed. I currently feed my babies Canidae lamb & rice formula. Its a little pricey but so worth it. This is the only food that has worked for my girl with allergies. When I first got my two they were also on Eukanuba and were little pooping machines...this was before I learned about all the by products in foods. Of course I learned this from this site too. Their food now contains no by products. My vet says it like this....any dog food that you can buy at a supermarket is not that great. I had a link with a list of good quality foods but I don't know where its at now. If I find it I'll send it to you. It could have been the food that was making them gain weight quicky or it could be that they are going through a grow spurt. When I brought Mimi home she was almost 3 lbs at 12 weeks and now she is 11 lbs More to love..but she really should be 8-9 lbs. She was on allergy meds which m ade her blow up a little so now we're working on trimming her up a little because of her having LP on her back knees. All the extra weight isn't good for her. Timmy on the other hand was almost 2 lbs at 12 weeks and now he's about 6 lbs. It really varies...some grow bigger than others. |

| Hi, thanks for the info. I did try that growth chart but must be doing something wrong because they are showing to be WAY above where they should be for their age. In ounces, they are as of today (16 weeks) 65 ounces and 81 ounces. If I double their 12 weeks weight, they would be full grown at 5.4 and 6.2 pounds. So I am confused... |

| If you switch to a better quality kibble, like the grain free kibble such as Innova EVO, Orijen, Solid Gold Barking at the Moon, Canadae, Wellness; or feed Nature's Variety raw, you will find that they will poop much less. You can feed raw one meal and feed kibble at another. You definitely gotta get the corn out of them. Mine won't eat anything but Natures Variety raw and if their little medallions don't seem to satisfy them I give them a little grain free after they eat the raw. I have just learned that the venison and lamb keeps them from scratching like beef and chicken do. dogfoodanalysis.com has a kibble rating. It would help you to read the reviews and ratings before you go looking for the dog food. You won't find the grain free's at your local grocery store. Hopefully you live in a city that is large enough to supply you with a good selection to choose from. Good luck, and welcome to YT. You won't believe it here, it's wonderful.

| A breeder should be able to help you with the weight. But yorkies are so tough to figure out. Yours could have had their growth spurt and slow down now.. it's so hard to say. I have to be honest... the food you are feeding is equal to you eating McDonalds every day... it is fatty and full of fillers and animal bi-products (the parts of the animal not suitable for human consumption). You should really think about switching both your yorkies and your lab to a higher quality food you will notice a huge difference in the poop that is coming out and their overal health. While the actual food might cost more, you will save in vet bills 10 fold. Try a food that is not available a Petsmart, Walmart or the grocery store. Great food are Wellness, Canidae, Innova, and Solid Gold. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Welcome!! Congrats on your 2 babies. Their weight is hard to tell what they will top out at but Roxie was around 3 lbs at 4 months and now at 9 months she is just a tad over 4. So she grew early as some do.
