| Dog Plugs For Yorkies?? 4th Of July My little Bailey is scared to death of Firecrackers. She's also afraid of thunder. But firecrackers scare her so much, she gets bouts of diarrhea after hearing them. Does anybody else have this problem. Now that the 4th is around the corner, does anyone have a suggestion on how to lessen this trauma? Earplugs for dogs? : |

My little Shadow Donating YT Member | Boy, I wish someone did have an answer! I hate little Bailey has to go through such a traumatic experience!! Last July 4, we babysat my daughter's & step-daughter's dogs & they both are so Scared!! My husband held one & the other went from place to place trying to Hide. I eventually held her and went in the closet where it was dark & it seemed to comfort her. Geeeeeezzzz, I wish there was something!! Good Luck w/little Bailey.

| Loki doesn't like thunder so during storms i put a tight t-shirt on him (it helps with anxiety) and he retreats to a quiet closet where he has a bed. Just make sure that YOU don't make a big deal about it or she will sense it. Maybe have some frozen Kongs or something ready for her to keep her occupied.

| I'm going to Petco tomorrow to get a clicker, so I'll get a kong and a t-shirt for her. She doesn't have a bed cuz the whole apartment is hers. She lets me live here and she lets me share the big bed with her. I'll make a cozy spot in the closet, put the shirt on her and give her frozen kong. I never make a big deal out of the noise, I just wish she weren't so terrified. Thanks for the tips folks. If anyone else has suggestions, please let me know. |

| OK, guys, (or girls) isn't there an organic calming formula that she could safely give to her?

| There is Bach's rescue remedy and there is a D.A.P ( dog appeasing pheremones) that you can get in plug in or spray formula these are what I use for Alfie when we have Guy Fawkes night over here as he is terrified.

| I know Mojo doesn't like loud noises either...and we normally do not take him to places around the 4th....BUT we also usually do a dinner party and fireworks at our home sometime around the 4th. When it gets dark and time for fireworks, he is always in the house and under the bed. I feel so sorry for him. I know some people have mentioned using those foam human ear plugs (for bathing to keep water out of their ears)....I think they mentioned cutting them in half. You might try those?! About the calming spray....years (YEARS) ago, we had a cat (that we loved, but my daughter developed allergies)...when we rehomed the cat, we bought a calming spray for the car ride and gave to the new owners for their car ride and to use at their home until she was settled. I don't remember what it was called (as that was MANY years back)...but it did work.

| Aww..poor little thing. I would suggest playing a TV or radio to try to cover some of the noise. Or you may want to look into a calming agent like PetEase. (I have used that before for a long car trip w/ one of mine who is less than happy with being on the road.) |

| My daughter's little boy Spike is the same way. We use an herbal formula called Comfort Time for thunderstorms which helps a very tiny bit. If you choose to give her any kind of medicine try it out ahead of time. We have tried both Benedryl and the vet prescribed Valium- both have the opposite effect on Spike. It's like giving him speed.

| Poor baby, I am hoping she'll do ok. It's going to be Kacy's first but we are not going to be near the city. Koda was fine last year, we were celebrating and she thought the whole idea was fun.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | That's exactly how I got my girls un-scared...It was silly and I didn't actually have a party - but I acted like it was huge fun and they've never really been scared of Fireworks since. |
