| Petsmart grooming: do they do a good job??? Hello! I guess the title of this thread pretty much is self explanatory. Is petsmart grooming pretty good about taking care of yorkies? has anyone used them before, and if so how was your experience. does anyone recommend going to a smaller pet boutique. I live in San Bernardino County > city of redlands, CA. I was wondering if anyone knew a good groomer in the area my baby comes home in 5 days! oh, be still, my heart...... |

| i would never take a dog to petsmart grooming. I took Layla when she was a puppy.. and she always came home an emotional mess. They are kept in cages when they are not being groomed and the noise of the other dogs was too much for Layla. For two days after returning home from a grooming she made me carry her 24/7. This only got worse each time she went. After going about 3-4 times we decided it wasn't for us. I think it is great for large dogs but for our small ones they shoudl go somewhere smaller. i hated that she was there for 3 hours, most of which i'm sure she was in a cage. |

| I guess it would depend on your particular Petsmart but I wouldn't leave any of my babies at mine!!! I went there just for a nail trim and they didn't even do that well. The trimmer must have been dull and they split my chihuahuas nails. They were raggedy and caught on everything!! I won't go back even for their nails!!

| I agree, I wouldn't take my baby there. They are not so careful with the dogs there. My sister takes her yorkie there and he always come back freaking out and very thirsy/hungry bc they insist on keeping him ALL DAY and they don't give him water. My sister wanted to stay and sit with him while they did it but they said that they needed to keep him from like 10am to like 4pm, it was ridiculous. Also, my mom took one of our dogs there once and they accidentally cut him when shaving him. Not reccomended.

YT 1000 Club Member | Not a big fan of the grooming process at Pet Smart...I don't think the groomers are professional...some look as though they are in elementary school! I had Kiki's nails trimmed there once and I was with her and she yelped...KiKi is a very quiet dog...so that did it for me...no more.

| Everyone has their own personal preference when it comes to groomers and it usually took going to several groomers before finding one that cuts the hair just like you like it. Petsmart is not where I would start that process

| There are good /not so good groomers in any shop/salon,go in and watch at the window for a bit. Take note of who is patient and good with the dogs. Ask questions like "Is there a groomer here who specializes on small breeds,Yorkies in particular?" Also request an express groom, your pet will be in & out in 2 hrs or less for an additional $10. Please don't lump all PetSmart associates together, yes there are some who shouldn't groom a pet rock, but there are some like both of my daughters who have lists of request dogs. They work hard at their job and can honestly say at the end of the day that they would be happy to show off any of their grooms! Just my .02, proud mom of 2 PetSmart Groomers. |

| The Petsmart that's just down the street from me looks like they do a really good job. The employees seem very caring toward the dogs, regardless of size; I've seen only one or two yorkies who were just going in, so never saw the finished result, but the other dogs I've seen on their tables all looked pretty good. That said, even though it's closer to me than my regular groomer, I don't take them to Petsmart b/c they charge almost the same as my own groomers do and I just feel more comfortable with them b/c I've been using them since I got Max as a puppy and he knows them. I think it just depends on the individual store that you go to. I love my groomers (all the ones in the place I go are good) and would recommend them to anyone, but they're in Palm Desert. Kinda far for you to drive!

| When I lived in SoCal I took my pound puppy who at the time was 16 years old and had heart disease to PetSmart. I spoke to a groomer who specialized in old and sick dogs. All of her animals were very old, cancer patients, heart patients ect. I never paid more, but she took them early before the store opened to keep the stress level down. It only took 2 hours compared to the 8 hours my old groomer took. The old groomer had way to many dogs for one person. When I moved to IL, I got a yorkie after I had to have my other one put down, and thought I would try the PetSmart here. He is now at a private groomer. they did not trim his butt and the groomers were not very considerate of the other animals they were trimming. |

| Thanks for all responses because I was thinking of making Javah an appointment He has been going to a small groomer shop that I really enjoyed up until his last grooming. He started with the diarrhea and we found he had giardia, usure if it came from there or not. *shrugs*
