grooming Ok, i posted a little while ago that i cut tobys hair myself.... I CAN BELIEVE HOW FAST HIS HAIR GROWS!!!!!!!!! HE ALLREADY NEEDS A NEW HAIRCUT!!!..... i went out and bought clippers today (with 23 attachments) for $20 at burlington coat factory..... so it will but down time it takes to actually groom him myself (it took me and hour to do it by hand last time) I think it has only been about three weeks or so since i cut him last time,, is this normal hair growth for a yorkie or is his hair just growing in "super fast Time"

It depends on how much it is growing...like how many inches and all. Depending on the genetics, some dogs coat will grow faster or slower. Mojo's siblings that never had a "puppy cut" had a coat touching the floor within 10 months. Maybe it is his case, so to keep the way you want will require a cut 1 or 2 times a month...

I swear Toby and Luca Dean must have the same hair texture. Luca Dean's was cut like 2 days after I got him b/c his mats were so bad and hair not real healthy either. In three weeks he's probably grown 1/2 inch of hair. I am glad it's growing fast. He gets lots of protein though -- I'm feeding him a little jar of baby meat food a day along with his dry Science Diet. His hair is finally staring to look a bit healthier too. I'm growing his out though -- at least, I say that now. We'll see how scruffy he looks in about three weeks...

lol........ i just used teh new clippers on him..... i think he looks cute, but my fiance says that he likes him a little more "scruffy" then the way i cut him...... so i guess maybe ill not cut his hair so short next time (i only used the 1/2 inch setting....... so its not THAT short).... i have to say though, he LOVED the clippers i think he thought it was like a mini massage because the clippers vibrated..lol... and when i used scissors to trim around his face, he started to get squirmy...... For anyone that likes to keep their yorkies hair in a puppycut, and they do it themselves i HIGHLY recomend the clippers, it is sooooooooooooooooo easy, the clippers themselves were only $20 and you would pay more than that for just one grooming...... As toby needs to be groomed a couple times a month i couldnt see spending that kind of money for a professional, i think it is working out wonderfully doing it myself...... does anyone have any suggestions on cutting nails???? i cut toby's with regular nail clippers, but can you still do that when the yorkie is an adult or do you need actual dog clippers when they get to be that big??.... i tried the "fileing them down idea" and it didnt go over to well, he is more relaxed when i clip them with the nail clippers and he is a wiggle worm and scared Sh*Tless when i use the nail file........

Bentley's hair grows really fast too. I just cut his hair last week and I already feel like he is ready for another haircut! Are your clippers made for dogs or for people? We have some clippers that I cut my husband's hair with, but they are so big and loud that I'm sure Bentley would freak out if I used them.

The first time I groomed Luca Dean I used my fiance's and it was like I was torturing the dog the way he was acting. We have a Burlington an hour away. I'll have to check it out. I'm thinking of growing Luca Dean's, just to see how long it would take to get him in full coat, and since I took so much off the first time. I do trim his ears and feet with scissors. And around the eyes. Where exactly are you supposed to trim around the eyes? I did a 360 on them last time, all the way around. Do you leave the bottom to grow and just trim the top or insides??

I tried cutting Gucci's hair with the clipers but she wouldn't let me. She will growl, bark and even try to bite it. Also she seems to be very scared of the noise. I tried using the scissors and she will bite them also. I don't know what Im going to do. The time I trim her hair to treat he ringworm my son had to help me holding her and I even try cutting her hair with the scissors while she slept. I cant take her to the groomers until her ringworm is completly gone. If anyone has any advise to make grooming time less tramatic for her I will apreciate it. By the way I even giver her treats but she wouldnt take them, she just try to run away from the scissors or snap at them.
