| Some people... Our boys are getting more involved in sports, especially baseball. We've been spending a great deal of time at the baseball fields and thought we should start bringing Sophie along. The first game went really well...she didn't bark or anything...we are so proud of her behavior at all the games. The second game attracted an uneducated observer/commenter. He acted like he really liked her, asked if he could pet her and so on. Then he asked me what type of mutt she was? Mutt? Are you kidding me? She is well groomed, has a small pink leather collar (only for her tags) and a really cute puppia harness. I don't think that screams mutt. I believe what goes around comes around and I tend to try and "kill em with kindness". I politely smiled and shared that she is Yorkshire Terrier. Courteous people don't approach any animal owner and ask what type of mutt it is. People just don't understand that pets are part of the family. I wouldn't walk up to anyone and ask that. Just venting...I'm sure this will be the first of many baseball park misunderstandings but I don't care because Sophie is part of our family and until there is a no pets allowed sign she will come along and enjoy the game . Have a good day everyone! |

| Do you think that he may have been saying it as a figure of speech? (not that it was appropriate AT ALL) but that he was just trying to be.....nah, forget that thought. I thought maybe he was just trying to make conversation in a strange way. But scratch that, he is totally out of line in calling her a mutt. Again, so many people out there are completely tackless when it comes to talking about dogs and realizing (like you said) that they are like children to many of us. You should have turned to him and said, omg I forgot to ask, which RugRat out on the field it yours? Ha! That's just the smartass in me kickin in. (believe me, I mean no snide comment towards children, I love all children, I was a 3rd & 4th grade teacher for 10 years) so please don't take that comment the wrong way.

| You are correct, that man was ignorant. He obviously did not know anything about pure breds... Do not let it get to you. However, I would have personally felt insulted. |

I agree with you totally. That's why I corrected what I said following that...and what I said was that he was totally out of line. I would have taken that very personally too. He's an idiot. (I just always try to give the person the benefit of the doubt which I tried and then gave up on him in this case)

| I understand how you feel..but thats mild compared to the comments Pixie has had!...just last week..Pixie's 1st birthday actually! I was out walking her with my husband when a work colleague came up behind us on a bike..as i turned around to see who it was she said..'oh i thought it was a Rat on a lead!'...then she said:...'isn't she cruel putting a hairband in her hair' I was mad! and came back with:..' How DARE you call my baby a RAT! and on her 1st birthday too!' she looked a little uncomfortable then..I just couldn't believe how cheeky and rude she was! On another occasion a man with his wife/girlfriend walked past me walking Pixie, he looked down at her with an amused look on his face and exclaimed: 'Look at that RAT'!....I don't know what it is about these little dogs..especially as Pixie is a tiny 3lbs but she seems to attract these sorts of comments which leave me livid! it's got to the point now where i am constantly on the lookout for potential 'idiots' everywhere we go and i'm just waiting for a reaction of some sort.. She also attracts attention from nice peopl though..who are just fascinated by her and want to know all about her..i just find it tough to take the negative attention.

| I suppose ignorance really is bliss. I'm glad she gets to go places with you. Mine loves to go places and see people; even other lil doggies!

| I've learned that some people are just going to be rude and annoying. Not that it makes it acceptable, because it absolutely is not, but I have realized that theres always going to be someone with something to say. Whether it is out of ignorance, or they think they are being comical, you just have to let it not get to you too badly. My parents have neighbors that go over to thier house and whenever I am there with Duke I always hear something like "mop dog" or anything else they come up with to call him. I just pick him up, roll my eyes and walk away.. What more can you do? I figure there is no point in saying anything, it never does any good when I do...

| That was great! I think I'll use that line next time. I'm glad she can come out and about with us. We "met" another dog that was rather large and I thought it would be best if they didn't play. So went about our business. This is the first time I've been offended. I'll get over it and save that witty remark about the Great Dane for other rude people. I love YT because eveyone is so supportive. This guy is also the guy that likes to complain about calls made by the older kids that umpire the games. My husband commented loudly that it is innapropriate to razz a young ump. I think he actually may have trying to bond with us or be funny when he called her a mutt . Some people... |
