| ![]() I tell them the breed standard is 4-7 lbs. There is no such thing as a "tea cup" or a "toy" or a "miniature", though some can be below or above breed standard in weight.

| ![]() Before I got my little Tinklit, I thought there were such things as "teacup" breeds. Of course, once I started doing the research I became educated. It is very sad though, that owners and professionals in vet offices still think there is such a thing. I don't think it is rude at all to inform someone when they ask if your dog is a "teacup" that there is no such thing. They aren't trying to upset us by asking that, they just don't know any better and it's up to us as "parents" to educate people whenever they give us the chance. I just tell them "actually, it's a myth that there is such a thing as a teacup breed, just as with any dog (even people!) some are smaller than others." I usually just get "OH, I didn't know that!" ![]() |

| ![]() Teacup is a decriptive word for a tiny dog..just like the word mutt is used to decribe a mixed breed. Little people had to deal with a decriptive word I won't mention because it is disrespectful. Hopefully someday this word will be used less, with enough of us informing the public. Ignorance is everywhere and only those who use the word for profit are the ones who should be ashamed of themselves..lets just all continue to educate. |

| ![]() I worked in a vet hospital for several yrs and it was unusual to see a yorkie under 6 lbs believe it or not...most yorkies were over the standard..so when I saw a yorkie that was less then 5lbs I was shocked..Back in the day is was soo common to see larger yorkies. |

| ![]() I have a guy at work who says teacup all the time. I told him the first couple of times that there is no "teacup" but he still says, when talking about small dogs, "It goes teacup, toy, miniature, then standard" I just ignore it now. A girl I used to work with goes to puppy classes with me, and on the first day she said "I have a teacup chihuahua!" The next week, her "teacup" chihuahua came in, and he is about half the size of my 10 lb Layla... but he's only 4 months old!
