| PETLAND - as if we needed another reason... okay i apologize if this has been posted already but i do not remember seeing it since i found YT ... and this is kind of long lol i stopped at petland a couple weeks ago (i live in the far north dallas area) just to see what it was all about...those poor puppies! there was a 14 wk old yorkie girl (she was sooo cute - looked like my miss buffey when she was that age!) who was in a cage with a chihuahua and she was backed into a corner, trembling and cowering because the other puppy was trying to play with her too aggressively it was so sad...well a lady saw me staring at her and offered to let me hold her...i said no thanks - just looking...well she took her out anyway and put her in my arms...she was soo cute but desperately needed a bath ... she had poo matted ALL OVER HER HAIR INCLUDING AROUND HER FACE ... i was playing undercover (lol) so i asked about her registration and price...she said she was AKC registered and was $1800...i asked to see the paperwork....she brought it out and let me look at it....in the meantime, the puppy is sitting in my lap and she was as sweet as could be - no longer shaking or scared and a totally sweet puppy...well i look at the paperwork and she is CKC...i said she is CKC, not AKC like you stated, why is she so expensive? she said it was because they include all puppy shots and the spay and neuter with their "partner" vet ... i said that was still too much for a CKC puppy and that i paid far less than that for my three AKC registered yorkies from GOOD breeders...at that point, she took the puppy from me, gave me a dirty look and walked away but i digress...onto the real story a coworker of mine told me something i did not know about petland that made me mad, although i cannot say i am suprised...his wife and son got a puppy from them last weekend...he was NOT happy about it at all and today is still mad lol ... i forwarded him a bunch of links about petland and puppy mills so he and his wife would know not to support them next time around...anyhoooo his puppy is adorable (a pomchi) but they noticed he was sneezing and coughing...so his wife takes him to the "petland vet" because it was free but also scheduled an appt with their regular vet (who is very well known in this area and has won numerous city awards for veterinary medicine) .. well sure enough puppy has kennel cough ... and then their regular vet tells them this: he sees lots of pets from petland and they got lucky...other than the kennel cough the puppy is very healthy...but here is the kicker: when petland first came, they contacted him to be their "partner" vet...they proposed it as a lucrative relationship but explicitly stated that he was THEIR employee first and foremost and that he was not to say anything other than the puppies brought in were in great health and he was no longer allowed to think of the puppies and the families first anymore OMG can you believe that? his response was, "take a hike and never contact me again" i was just surprised that they would be this "open" about this...i figured they must pay the partner vets off somehow but i was shocked to hear this!

| In California we have Petsmart, and a Petco .Probably the equaliant of the Petland your referring to. I have heard never, ever buy a animal at one of these stores. I is not ever a good idea to buy a puppy or kitten from any pet store whatsoever. I have heard these kinds of horror stories before, and it pissess me off, and saddens me for the poor little animals |

I think PetSmart pets are usually rescue groups that bring their animals and not usually from puppy mills. Maybe it's like that here and different everywhere else, but I know they usually have a rep or they have fliers on a table stating they're from a rescue. | |

| We have a Petland near us as well. Its really sad to say they get such High prices and sometimes there are lots in there that are not well at all. There are times I go in there and they are so bad and other times the dogs will look great. I think it depends on there shipments. Plus you never know the truth about the parents or where they came from. You have all kinds of people coming and going around these little puppies and hard to tell what they can pick up. I'm not sure I would want to take my kids in and have them play with sick dogs. At Christmas time they had stacks of dogs in the back area where people were to come in later and get them close to Christmas Eve. It was terrible not sure why they didn't have someone come in and complain, I'm sure they were over there legal limit and with the dogs in the back in crates waiting for the owners to come back and pick them up. It was more like a holding tank. I would have to say 2 up to that Vet that turned them down. He did the right thing for those dogs and owners.

| What a terrible, sleazy place to try to make a deal like that with a vet. Good for him for turning them down.

| Actually, after I wrote that, I did remember that most of those animals are from the SPCA. However, what I did not like about it was that sometimes the cats are in there for a very long timeBefore being adopted. There is anther petstore that I believe is privately owened had puppies as well... I still personally will not buy any animal from a pet store. |

| Petsmart only sells rodents, reptiles, amphibians, birds and fish. Most of the animals I see look fine. Petco, I don't know. A lot of the stores, Petsmart, Pet Supplies Plus etc. have great adoption programs during the weekend. If I ever see a pet store that sells puppies and kittens I turn the other way. Cats and dogs are more advanced species and need more intense care and enrichment. I used to love to go to the pet stores in the mall and look at the cute puppies and kittens. Now I can not even bear to walk by. I know where they get their animals and I will not support that. Can we walk through the store and hand out those annoying flyers that religous people press in your hand every chance they get??? It is so not fair because their little ones are so cute, so helpless, so not to blame for the breeder's faults. I don't know, nothing we can do Melissa |

| OMG! You would think that propositioning a vet to LIE about the health of a puppy would be illegal and punishable by law!!! The more I hear about Petland, the more I feel like breaking into one and STEALING all the dogs!! I mean, they are trying to con the public, have no regard for the health or well being of the dogs in their facility...I could go on and on and on!!! I just think about that sweet English Bulldog I saw there, who was 1/2 off because she had severe demodectic mange as well as a really bad cherry eye...I asked how much she was and was told $1800, so I said on sale she's $900...nope! Her regulare price was like $3600!!!!!!!!!! I told her they were crazy if they thought they were going to sell a dog for $1800 that had to right off the bat have epensive vet care!!! I think we need to do something! Look at all the experiences! It is not even just one store...it's across the board! Can't we contact someone to do an investigation? Can't we write to the newspapers and tell them what's going on? I think if enough of us (the public) step up and demand a change, something must happen!!!! I'm just sickened by the whole Petland thing. And I'm getting madder and madder with everything I read about them... |
