Registration: AKC or CKC, What's the difference?

i remember when i bought my mickey i went somewhere to register him and paid $50 CDN. but i never recieved any forms from the breeder nor did i really care about it. i was just happy to be getting a puppy (i was 9)
now i'm trying to figure out if akc and ckc (cdn version) is worth looking into. cuz i don't plan on breeding or showing at all.

My personal believe is that it's best done the first year, as this keeps the breeders honest. It's also the most economical way because after the first year, costs to register increase to about $85.00, more if you actually need the pedigree record, but most good breeders have already included this. The pedigree record lists your dog's family tree.

Because legitimate registries keep strict records of linage, and in some cases DNA, it is my hope that this knowledge will be useful in treating hereditary diseases in the future. To me, all those who aren't breeding or showing don't "need" to register, it's just giving monetary support to an organization that does try to a good job in improving the breeding conditions of dogs. Plus you do get a cute tag.

I don't plan on breeding London but I registered her for the lost and found directory with the AKC.

ok so i think i did register my dog with the canadian one... i remember we had to fill out a paper and paid money and got a tag (not cute though... they may be cute now 10 years ago, not so much)
i was just trying to figure out what i did when i went to that place with my puppy. hehe
