| ![]() I don't know - but we sure get a lot of compliments on Jeanie's colouring, and I don't think it's standard.........she's much darker than most (pics attached to show what I mean) Last edited by mrlmonroe; 05-26-2008 at 09:35 AM. |

| ![]() Thanks, I only know the general basics but I do try to keep on top of and educate myself about the genes that I'm interested in or am breeding for. Most of my knowledge comes from years of breeding Morgan horses, being editor, author, VP and board member for a group of "colorful" Morgan owners and breeders. The dog genetics is fairly new to me but is very similar in principal to the horses.

Gee, I'm embarrassed, it needs to be updated ... I wrote it prior to the DQ rule. Maybe after my daughter's wedding - ![]() ![]()

| ![]() She is a pretty color (and very pretty girl), personally I like the sooty/smutty coloring like your girl has. It's not the standard for showing but I think it's beautiful!

| ![]() I personally love all the colors, a yorkie is a yorkie regardless of color. I can very well see how a maltese could have been added to the mix. They have dark pigment on their nose, eye rims and pads on their feet. But they can also have dark pigment elsewhere as well. I have a male maltese who has dark pigment on his muzzle as well as his ears which is common with those with great pigment. Have you ever seen some of the morkies some sell? I have seen quite a few that have a parti coloring to them when the parents were a standard yorkie and a stardard maltese. Whether or not a maltese did make the parti gene possible I don't know but I can very well see how it could be possible.

My mentor gave my daughter a Maltese puppy as a wedding gift a few months ago, and when she baths her, you can see darker pigmented areas on her pink skin. Her coat is all white but she has light skin freckles too. I've seen some parti colored morkies that have the same markings as our parti yorkies and I've seen people advertise that the pups are from a maltese x yorkie cross but the yorkie was also a parti gene carrier in order for the parti color to be produced.

DQ rule - YTCA's color Disqualification Rule only allowing blue and tan dogs to show (supposidly black and tan adults will be disqualified now in the ring - prior to the DQ rule, black and tan were not automatically DQ'd for being off standard in color). Thanks for the good wishes with the wedding ... I'm looking forward to the day after the wedding when I can REST! :-) You've been a busy lady, a wedding 3 weeks ago and 2 new beautiful grand babies ... I'm tired just thinking about it! :-) Congrats to you and your family!

When they are born, a lot of them have THE palest of tan markings on their head. This grows out and is all white by the time they go to their forever homes. | |
