How big is your yorkie? My puppy will be 6 months on Monday and he is 5.5 pounds. I was told he would be a "teacup" but clearly he is not. I read that most yorkies full grow are between 5-7 pounds. What im wondering is... who had a puppy that was 5.5 pounds at 6 months and how big did he/she get fully grown?? Is he gonna get much bigger? |
My yorkie is 11lbs, and I think he was around 6 lbs at 6 months, but I can't remember...He had some health issues growing up, so he had a huge growth spurt later on. As I'm sure you've read on here, "teacups" do not exist and are a term used by unscrupulous breeders for marketing purposes and to raise the prices of their dogs. What is important is that your baby is healthy... |
I have two yorkie boys . They are 14lbs and 18lbs at 2 years. My boys were bigger at 6months. So Im guessing your baby will be about 8 lbs. Just more to love.:D |
Lola is 9 pounds and she'll be 2 yo in July. The lady I got her from said 5-7... It's hard to tell the actual weight, but I think that some "not great breeders" will lie and tell you they'll be a teacup just to get more money. I was a little upset at first that she was bigger, but now I actually love that she is bigger. I love teapots lol! Since they're bigger you don't have to worry as much about them getting hurt and other things. My sis' 2 pound chi is about to be 2 yo as well and gets hurt a lot and is very fragile. |
Chachi was 7 lbs at 6 mos and now hes 11 lbs. Jewels was about 5 lbs and now shes 6 lbs |
Mine is 3 LBS at 10 months and that was because I didnt know about the whole byb or teacup thing (thanks YT!) In my opinion, does it matter? i think 6-8 lbs is perfect for size. the smaller they are the more delicate they have to be treated and a lot more work goes into maintaining them. Dont think i dont love my baby i do with all my heart. Trust me I over feed her so she can get plump lol im hoping for 4 lbs hehehe its not working tho LOL Just be happy u have more too love and they could do things that a smaller yorkie cant do!! |
my Bunny was like 5 or so lbs around that age and she is now about 6.5lb. at 3 yrs old Now, My breeder told me My bella was going to be about 6 or 7 lbs (I wanted her to be the same size as my bunny) full grown BUT she is about 2.5 lb at 2 yrs old. I think she was like 1 lb around that age I love my girls both the same. I just have to watch out for my bella more, bc she is WAY smaller |
Sass is 10 months and about 5 pounds. |
Phyllis is almost 2 years old and is 3.8 lbs. |
Chip is 9 months and 4.8 lbs.. it changes every time we go to the vet.. soooo yeaaah.. Rocky is 2 years old and 1 month at 7lbs or so.. he looks so much bigger but no.. he's not.. |
my boys are 2 years and 8 months old and one is 5lbs the other is 9lbs. they were small until they had a growth spurt at around 15 months. |
Duncan is a year and a half (in june) and hes 3 pounds. Piper is 5 months old and shes 3 pounds already. Im guessing prolly about 5 -6pounds full grown but well have to wait to see! |
Harls is 2.4 lbs at 15 weeks (weighed at the vet yesterday). I am hoping she at least gets up to 5 lbs. I have read that smaller yorkies (sometimes called 'teacups' - which I despise) are more prone to health problems later in life than those that are average sized. (Not to be confused with the standard). |
Buddy was 6.5 at 14 1/2 wks. He is now 15lbs at 4yrs and very muscular. |
lexi is big bonned :), she weighs around 10 lbs.. |
Toby is 9lbs 8 ozs at just over two years old. Shelby Rose is 5lbs 6ozs at just over a year old. :^) |
my Bella will be 2 yrs. old in October and she is 4 pounds shes a dainty little girl! |
They SHOULD be close to thier adult weight at 6-8 months, but they are all different My Beamer was 5.5 lbs at 6 months and 6 lbs at 8 months and is 6.25 lbs at a little over a year |
Cora is only 4 1/2lbs at 2 but I cant remember what she weighed BUT how can anyone determine size? That's like saying your kid is 2 and weighs 20 lbs so at 16 he will be 5' 11" and weight 180 lbs. Thes guys can be 2 lbs or 15lbs. Breeders should be band from telling people how big they are going to be. |
For a good estimate of adult weight, check out the Puppy Growth Chart sticky in the general discussion tab. Of course, our babies are all individuals and grow as such :) Pippin was recently weighed at his last vet visit when he was 5 months old. He was 4 lbs 3 ounces. I am guessing he will be around 5 to 5.5 lbs fully grown. |
My pookie is younger than your baby, so I can't help you out with your growth chart...but pooks is 5 pounds at 5 months! I changed his training treats to Cherios because I thought he was getting too heavy. It's a waiting game. I've about decided not to weigh him anymore. As long as I can feel his ribs I'm not going to worry about how big he gets. |
Post a pic when you can. We'd love to see him.:p |
Oscar First off i would like to thank everyone for their input! it was really fun and interesting to read and guess what will happen with my baby and to hear a bit about all of your little ones! I put a profile pic up and i dont know why it isnt showing- i also have an album on of oscar so you can look! He really is the cutest thing i have EVER seen. |
My pup was about 4.5 lbs at 6 months... Now, at 2 years he's about 7 lbs - could be a little above but honestly, I have no idea exactly. |
Nolee is 7.7lbs at 1 yr 3 months. The vet said at our last visit that he is over weight! I'm really confused. I don't think he is overweight. |

Cooper is about 7 lbs 4 oz.!!! Lucy (maltese) is 7 lbs.6 oz.. Cooper has exactly the same measurements as lucy except for his length. Hes one inch shorter then Lucy. |
Jake is 4 1/2 lbs. at 1 1/2 yrs. and Jackson is 6 1/2 lbs. at 8 mos. It's hard to tell because they all grow at different rates. Jake stayed 3 lbs. for the longest time, and I thought that would be his adult weight. Then, he had a growth spurt right before he turned a year. Jackson seems to have reached his adult size, but he might have a growth spurt too. You just never know. |
Jeter is 7 months and is 2pounds and 5 ounces, but he is still growing;) so we'll have to see what he gets to! |
Ranger is 10 months old and 4.8 pounds- just weighed him today!! He was exactly 2.5lbs at exactly 12 weeks old. I followed the growth chart just for fun and he followed along exactly, it was kind of wierd. I love his size, small enough to take everywhere, and big enough not to have to worry about him jumping off everything. They are good at making you gasp!! |
