Snickers is 10.5 lbs at 1 yr. I think at 5 months he was 7.5 lbs. I never followed the growth chart because his weight was off the chart:D. I will always have large yorkies. I am a big dog person at heart and was given a yorkie as a gift after saying that I wanted another dog for my 90 lb boxer to play with but I wanted the dog to be smaller than my boxer. Why my hubby thought a yorkie was a good idea, I don't know. But I have to say that Snickers has grown to be a great dog and I will always have a small and big dog. My boxer just loves him and they play great together. |
Teddy is around 7.5 lbs. He is a year and 8 months! |
Kuma is almost 5years and he is 9 and Kaylee is 13wees and about 2.7 |
Ozzie is gi-normous. He weighed just 3.3 pounds at 11 weeks, had doubled by about six months and if I remember right, he weighed about 9 or 10 pounds by 1 yr. He is now 10 (11 next month) and weighs 15.5 pounds. (He has gained weight since being neutered last year even though he has a healthy diet and is quite active.) We're trying to scale him back to about 14. |
Well my boy Winston was just under 2# at 12 weeks...then 3.8# at 6 months...now at 4 years of age he is a whopping 8.3#. I am hoping he's stopped gaining weight now, not that weight really matters...but I just want him to live a long and healthy life...and he is a little chunky, he really should weigh less. |
Meeko is 9.6 lbs and is 6 months old. |
Emma weighed about 5lbs @ eight months and is now 1 and weighs 6.5lbs Tia weighed about 3.5 lbs @ eight months and now weighs 3.9lbs @ 10 months |

My female Yorkie is almost 13 lbs at three years old and I love every ounce !!! She's healthy, happy and not as delicate as some of the tiny ones. |
Simba almost 6 mos @2.25 lbs gizmo 6 yrs old @12 lbs. :D |
I'm just curious why you think calling a yorkie a teacup is a horrible thing, but you think calling it a teapot is ok! That doesn't make any logical sense! |

I totally agree! |
My Chloe was about 5lbs at 6 months, and now at 10 months she is about 8lbs. |

If you want to call your baby a teacup lovingly or in jest, as those of who have teapots, do, that's great. Nobody would get upset by that.:) And please note, somehow the WRONG quote got in this post. (Was trying to use Aliza's quote.) People just get bent about the teacup reference because it usually relates to unscrupulous breeders and unknowing dog owners being defrauded. :mad:And those two things usually result in tiny dogs with serious health problems or, if you're lucky, a dog that may OK, but will exceed the 7-pound standard by quite a bit even though the person buying was told otherwise. |
What i have noticed comparing Pixie with my last Yorkie is that Pixie has a much slighter build, she's 3 lbs at 11 months. my last yorkie girl was between 5-6lbs and was much more 'chunky' & bigger boned. Pixie hasn't grown that much since she was 6 months old gaining no more than about half a pound in weight. |
My Lucky weighs 2lb3oz. He is 11 weeks old. He was 1lb4oz when I got him. |
Max weighs 5 pounds and is 19 mos old. :) |
YorkieS Are Wonderful Pets No Matter WHAT Size. People Shouldn't Get Too Hung-up On What To Call Them Whether They Are Tiny Or Large. THEY ARE SPECIAL, LOVING COMPANIONS. |
Yorkie's Size Quote:
I DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT TEACUPS AT ALL. BUT I IMAGINE TEAPOTS IS JUST A HUMOROUS TAKEOFF ON TEACUPS, I.E....TINY VS. LARGE ??? |

Teacups this is definitely true! after the posted this thread i got a private message from someone saying to be careful not to say teacup on the site because pple find it offensive. I got so scared everyone would hate me! I know now that the term teacup is just a SMALLER yorkie. I did want a small dog because i live in an apartment (one that doesnt even allow pets!) I wouldnt trade oscar for any other dog. I think he is the most precious thing i have ever seen and i even like his gross dog smell lately! |
Teacup wouldn't be a "bad" word if Unreputable breeder's didn't use it to make more money. We use the word Teapot for a joke. Plus all yorkie's are Yorkie's Under 7 lb's is still a yorkie not a teacup. Btw Brownie is 6 year's old & 20lb's. |
Rigger weighs about 12 pounds and they are the sweetest 12 pounds in the whole world!! |
[/FONT] My girls are 3 years old. Zoey weighs 2.5 lbs and Isabelle weighs 6 lbs. :aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
My 6 month old Trixie is just under 3 1/2 lbs. I'm guessing she will eventually be around 5 lbs. (I hope). |
Remy, at a little over 3 years old is 3 pounds. Her mother and father are both about 5 pounds. She was one of a litter of three. The breeder was up-front and honest and I knew she was the *runt* of this litter. I was told there was a good chance that she would be smaller than breed standard. I researched, read and learned all I could about this breed, and the breeder was selective in who he placed his dogs with. I really felt honored that he trusted me to care for one of his *babies* When I picked her up from the breeder's, her brother was still in the pen with her - omg - she was SO tiny next to him. It hit me then, seeing the comparison, just how tiny she was! Although she is perfectly healthy, there are definite draw-backs that come with such a tiny girl. I had to potty-pad train her because she can't handle snow, freezing weather or even a heavy rain storm. The drenched lawn when mowed is enough to cause her to get soaking wet - and she gets cold very quickly. Surgeries (i.e. spay, injury etc..) anesthesia risks with any small animal - I'm lucky to have already had a good vet. We have to be careful when she goes into exited *zoom* mode play :) ... I have to watch carefully when my young neices/nephews are here wanting to pick her up, etc... But a little extra care is worth it because no matter what she weighs or how big/small she is - she's the best buddy/baby/cutest/gorgeous dog I've ever had. She was one of a 3 dog pack until we lost Jack our 11 year old Golden Retriever a few months ago. Now it's Remy and Max (Brittany) - and for a runt, she sure holds her own with bigger dogs :D even though she can't run around free in the yard with them or come in and out all day at will. Anyway - I think what I am trying to say is - big, small, chunky, tiny, teacup, teapot - it's still a Toy Breed - we all have small dogs - read, read, read - knowledge is power - I don't know how or why the tiniest of tiny became something to strive for... It makes me sad to know there are people out there taking advantage of the breed and the people who want to love and be loved by one of these amazing little dogs. Hope that came out the way I wanted to say it :) Linda |
my buttons will be two in september and shes almost 10 lbs but she back on steriods for her scratching its the last resort but nothing else has helped, so she has to stay on them.. |
I can't remember how big Max was at 6 months, but at 4 months he was 4.5 lbs and now at 19 months he is 8 lbs. |
my vet told me that 8 pounds is heavy on a yorkies legs, but it seems alot of them are not the 4 or 5 lbs... |
sammy is almost 3 years old ( july) and he is 7 1/2 lbs. he was only 6 lbs when i got him at 14 months from the breeder, he was so so skinny. all the homecooking , i guess ! |
Bikini is a little over 5 pounds at 12 months. She was 2.5 at 12 weeks. She followed the growth chart perfectly. But honestly, she could weight anything... I would love her anyway! She is so cute :) But I know her sister and brother are 8 pounds. When I picked her up, I choose her between the three. At that time she was a tiny bit smaller but not that much. Her sister and brother are absolutely gorgous too... I chose her because she was a little bit lower on her legs. I thought that was so cute! It is really hard for breeders to predict exactly the adult weight of a puppy... it all depends on the frame, the genes... By the way, Yorkies are the best :) |
