| My sisters friend had an aunt that purchased a pup to surprise her husband. (She always wanted one) The pup was very small and when her husband got home she went to look for the pup to show her husband, he ended up sitting on the pup because he was snuggled on the couch underneath a pillow. Sadly the pup did pass.

| i have 2 stories one first hand and a freinds.. when iwas in 5th grade (years ago) my freinds yorkie was tied up outside to the porch.. with a collar not a harness. she had jumped through the bars on the porch and got her tie out caught on the boards and choked to death.. they didnt find her until they got home from church ): just makes us a little more cautious about collars and leaving our babies tied up my story isnt so sad but mitzy once fell down a flight of stairs.. my parents had just redone their stairs in wood.. she tried to go down them and slipped and flopped the whole way down.. i was screaming and shaking.. she seemed fine but i still took her to the vet in case. she was ok nothing broken at all.. stil scary

| Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | I've had a couple of mine fall onto cement from my lap and/or the patio table - probably more like landed wrong as I believe they were jumping off, not falling. Either way, THANKFULLY, they were scared (me even more so; it sounded awful!), but fine.It is scary, these little ones. Even on the ground, they run soooooo fast. I'll see them running like crazy after each other outside (or in) and I fear they will end up running into something head first, or even run into each other. Or, with all the hardwood floors in my house, I fear throwing a toy for them to chase in case they should run fast, slide, and not be able to stop before sliding into a door or furniture. Geesh, gotta watch them and protect them just like kids.........

My story... about a month ago I was having a piece of hard cheese and broke off a piece for each of the babies. Bailey, after taking it looked at me strange and then hit the ground and wasn't moving. I realized she was chocking. Thank goodness I knew how to do the Heimlick maneuver and was able to dislodge it. She ended up being just fine...much better than me!!!!

| These tragic stories really freak me out ![]() ![]() ![]() My 4-month old puppy jumped off the couch. I think it was a good thing she jumped like a cat and landed on her feet because she was not harmed. I was shocked she did that she probably didn't realize how small she is! I think I have to TRAIN her to not jump off beds, couches, tables, etc. It's the only way I can help prevent injuries from such accidents. Do you think that's possible?

| thats horrible all those stories. i have my own as well. when peanut was like 3 months old i gave him this little treat, looked like a teddy gram cracker, well he bit the body off and he decided to swollow the head ! my boyfriend and i were sitting on the couch and he was on the lap top and i was watching tv and i looked down at peanut and he was taking his paw up to his mouth like he had an itch but i knew something was wrong (mothers instincts) and he kept doing it, so i grabbed him and said tom there is something wrong and put peanut on the kitchen counter. at this time peanut was only like 1.5 lbs very tiny. so we notcied that he wasnt breathing he was gasping for air. thank god tom knew what to do and he was a voulnteer fire fighter. tom stuck his pinky down peanuts throat and he said that he couldnt reach the cracker so he put peanut's body between his under arm and side and put his fingers over peanut nose and pushed his stomach with his arm and the treat popped out of his mouth!! THANK GOD!! tom said peanut was going fast, we were realllly lucky!! i am so thankful for my wonderful boyfriend that saved our babies life!!! if he wasnt for tom i know i wouldnt have known what to do and i wouldnt have peanut today! so lesson of the story is to make sure these little piggies have small bites!!! peanut chews his food better but still i dont take any chances!!!!! i always tell tom that he just isnt peanuts dad he is peanuts angel!

| Oh this thread makes me heartsick. I can't imagine having something so tragic happen. I am way overprotective and I'm sure people think it's silly, but things happen!! I lived with my parents the first 2 years of Lucy's life and one time my dad was going out the front door and Lucy followed him, saw people across the street and ran into the street with a car coming. I was upstairs changing and watched all of this from my bedroom window. I ran down half naked and screaming but luckily my dad was able to stop the car before it hit Lucy. When she was just a bitty baby she was eating her food and my sister dragged the vacuum cleaner across our tile floor and it made this really loud noise that startled her and she started choking on her food! (way too much in her mouth of course). I was freaking out and luckily Lucy was able to get it up on her own. I just got Ella a few days ago and I forgot how they are always under your feet! I've been shuffling everywhere.

| The 'stepping' on them really bothers me (so sad) and the ones that get 'ripped' apart by other dogs (even more sad)... But the one that haunts me the most - is the little pup that was accidently put into the wash with the clothes, etc....I think about that story all the time....that poor little girl and the family must be in such pain from her loss (so sad) |

| These stories are making me so sad. I am so scared of my babies gettign hurt and they both think they are gymnists!!! Ava was jumping over her fences, on couches and off beds at about 4 months, probably earlier. She scared me so much but bowie is worse!! He jumps like a little kangaroo at only 2lbs!! He isnt allowed outside without one ofus aroubnd and is not allowed near the cars or in the garage. I swear i am gonna get him a helmet and body padding, hes always bumpin his lil head on the table or on a toy. A friend of mines brother had a teeny yorkie and his wife was leaving and the puppy followed her and got the door shut on her. So wierd that there was another story like that. When i get home tonight, i am putting that kitty bell on bowies collar!!

| One time my cousin and I were outside and he picked Chip up to love on him and Chip got wiggley and kinda jumped and fell out of my cousin's arms. He landed on his side on concrete. He yelped really loud and couldn't walk. He kept falling over and yelping. I tried to stand him up but he just kept falling so I scooped him up and ran upstairs to hubby to tell him to drive us to the vet thinking Chip had a broken leg. Hubby told me to put him down and low and behold, Chip could walk again and was acting like nothing happened... either he's a huge drama king or he was just stunned. Whatever happened, I'm just glad he was okay. Also, as I was reading this thread, we could have had a freak accident. I looked over to see Chip chewing on something so I went to see what it was 'cause I knew I hadn't given them anything to chew on like bully sticks or whatever. It was a piece of metal that kind of reminds me of a bent up paperclip. If I hadn't seen him chewing on it, he could have choked.

| Senior Yorkie Talker | I do this because of my children as well. I always wondered why they made the strings so long.

After reading it I made sure to tell my fiance to always check the clothes before he does the laundry, my babies love to lay in the clothes and even though the dirty clothes are always in a hamper that they can't get into, it's always better to be safe than sorry.I kinda have a freak accident story w/ Rocky...when we first got him we were at my moms and he was running around playing w/ her boxer. He jumped up on the couch and went to jump off and fell on his back on the hardwood floor. I immediatly grabbed him, and his neck was turned..I swear to God...almost 180degrees! I freaked out and he was jerking his head, and after about a couple jerks he got his head back in the right position, and was ready to go play, of course I wouldn't put him down and when he went to the vet a couple days later for his shots they said everything was o.k, I will never forget that moment though.
